The smaller piece is an air scoop that feeds the K&N filter housed in the bigger round piece. The advantage with thhis setupm if there is one, is just that - the air is chanelled into the filter like I col air + ram intake. I kind of like it but it is rather pricey. They tell me that it comes with all the parts though no dryer vent hoses need to be supplied! Also the guy from Renn is really greta. Very responsive and helpful. Do note that the directions are in Japanese and it looks like you need to remove the nose.

They sent me the install direction on this, kinda turns this system into a ram air, so can you really dyno the potential gains? I'd just be worried about the rain!

Default worried about the rain

don't all ram air intakes have that problem ?

Maybe the scoop can be angled downwards ?

Direct quote from Samir @ GruppeM "You won't have any issues in the rain due to hydrolock...GruppeM
designed the intake to withstand this hazard"
Boy that makes me feel good about the intake, well not really. Not very convincing if you ask me.

After the install what is the resulting sound of the car? More throaty or high pitched?

hydrolock ? I used to have that on my boots. It did keep them dry and warm!

I'll ask Samir about that. I'm not overly concerned about the water issue and the design is certainly intriguing but ...

Me too so if you go for it be sure to provide input!

You can buy it on eBay through renn-sports and talk to samir. Try these links:

Kewl! I almost ordered today too but missed the ebay deals and then got busy.
I'll be anxious to see if you like it and how it performs. Do you how long they will be selling them at that price ?

Sam told me they have a very limited amount... This $649 is a promotional price... thier testing how well they do with them before they buy in bulk...
NOTE: they never tested the intake in a 350z because they do not have a Z available..... he told me it will gain anywhere from 7-9 hp to the wheels and about 12-13hp at the fly...

They never tested it in a Z...

but it will gain hp?!?!?!

Does anyone else say something here sounds funny?

Seriously brother... wicked you drive a Z, but SERIOUSLY don't be disappointed when you spend that much and it doesn't make that much power. Our engine bay is already pressurized, and our factory intake is generating a RAM effect as is.

If it makes power, ROCK on... I'll buy one with you. Though with my experience, THIS piece is now one I'm willing to test out on my $$$.

Evil: So many negative people on this board. Don't be such a nay sayer man. Of course they didn't develop an intake without the car. It is the usa reseller that has not tested it in a Z yet and therefore can't quote gains!

GruppeM has a great reputation for high end intakes on BMW and Porsche and for producing significant gains.
That said, yes our Z's have a very good stock intake (not CAI RAM though) and I'm not sure any aftermarket intake will really do much. This one however is a combo RAM and CAI and is wrapped in very nice high quality Carbon Fiber. I would say it has as much promise as anything out there that I'v seen. Yes it is pricey but they are offering money back if your not happy with the quality.
