To try and get an accurate reproduction of a sound via microphone you have to record in a place without a lot of noise (hard to do outdoors) and without any surfaces to cause unwanted reverberations or echoes (hard to do indoors). The latter effect is a bit harder to be entirely rid of because of the location of the tail pipes being so close to the ground, there will always be some sound reflections from the ground.

The relatively cheap microphones on a camera, are notorious for easily being overloaded. It's typically a little better on say a camcorder vs a camera, since the mic is usually a bit better. Distancing the mic to a point where the loudest sound is just under the overload point will net better acoustic results albeit with a little more ambient noise.

The sound will pick up better when the camera is facing the tailpipes head on too. If you have an extremely loud exhaust though, it gets really hard to not overload the mic.

I'm not saying you overloaded the mic in your videos, I simply mentioned it FYI for anyone.
