Default Test Pipes or Exhaust

I was looking into either upgrading to test pipes or buying an aftermarket exhaust? Any ideas which would help boost HP slightly, which of the 2 has larger gains in power? Own 04 350z 6spd

Any brands to avoid?

Any brands recommended?

Thanks

Exhaust help is in the exhaust forum. We put it there so that new members will have a hard time finding it. So far I think we are doing a stellar job.

Well I would say get whichever exhaust you think sounds best. All yield about the same gains

haha, if u are looking for that then obviously u are not doing your research thinking u want test pipes...which will most likely throw cel without the defoulers, and the test pipes which will make the car much louder and stink like ****...think u need to search some more...high flow cats seem more down your alley

Get HFCs, not test pipes if you want to stay quiet.

Look around more, there are exhaust kits that are quiet with a good pair of HFC's. Also though stated above, Running test pipes do not make your exhaust stink.

running test pipes absolutely makes the exhaust stink...there is no way around it. You may no smell it, but everyone else does, trust me. Get someone to drive your car, and you follow behind in another car, and it will be obvious.

To the OP - set a budget first, select parts second

Test pipes could throw a CEL, depends on the year of the car, and just dumb luck (any cars never throw the light). However, depending where you live, you may have inspection issues down the road.

thanks again for the info, I had a friend who had HKS dual exhaust on his 05 Z and man those HFC were super loud even in 5th gear the things roared on the freeway. Being here in CA I know the highway patrol would easily pick me out of a line of of cars so thats why I wanted to get some ideas of sound and performance.
