Default Crawford Plenum?

I just got my plenum today and instlled it. It was fairly simple and took about 1.5hrs by myself. Anyways, when I took my plenum off it was kind of dirty with an oily substance on the inside. There wasnt a lot of this, but it was there. Is this normal? What is the fluid that is in the hose under the TB(the small hose)? I took it for a spin and it felt stronger up top. Need to get to the track to find out.

Default Oil from PCV system

I too have had oil coming through the PCV system. This problem mainly comes from high RPM driving . The oil does tend to pool in the intake manifold and is not good.

The fix as mentioned above is the oil catch can inline with the PCV system to remove the oil from entering the manifold.

I ordered an OBX catch can (about half the price of GReddy and others). I have been very impressed with the quality and it works well. Check them out. (No I have nothing to do with this company). http://www.2kracing.com/cgi-bin/part...=3559337_27565

Default Oil Source

The oil comes from the valve covers where the PCV valve is. During high RPM driving there can be a lot of vacuum at the PCV valve opening. Some oil can get sucked into the PCV valve and goes into the intake manifold.

Generally there is some baffling in the valve cover to help prevent this, but it may not be perfect. Many cars have this problem when driven a lot at high RPM. Most of the time a little oil doesn't hurt anything. However, having seen how much oil was in the intake manifold after 1 autoX I was surprised and wanted to fix it.

If the oil continues to be deposited into the manifold over a period of time it will sludge up the manifold, intake runners and backsides of the valves -- not nice.

A lot of turbo cars have this problem as well and can be a lot worse depending on the PCV system design.

Next dumb question. Where/what is the pcv valve? Is it because I have an Injen CAI that I am having this problem?

Default PCV valve location

If you are facing the engine, the PCV valve is located on the left valve cover near the front of the engine.

No, the Injen intake has nothing to do with it.
