borla installed: input on the system
i installed the borla td system on my 2008 350 zr and wanted to give my input on the system. the install took about 3 hrs. (from jacking car up to test drive) here is my review of the system:
pros:
great sound and not to loud
great quality material
descent seat of the pants hp/tq
good price($929 shipped from jegs)
muffler is tucked up underneath
dual exhaust
easy install
cons:
fitment issue with the passenger side intermediate pipe
tips stick out too far(about 1" too far)
borla lettering upside down on muffler(no biggie cant really see it)
hangers on muffler dont go all the way thru the rubber grommet in the rear(had to bend hangers)
i also considered the nismo($1,059), fast intention and magnaflow($479) but really like the sound of the borla.

i went off of sound clips from this website and youtube. there was a couple of other things that help me influence the buy for the borla...one being that the muffler is tucked up underneath so you really cant see it and second that it was a dual exhaust

here is some pics of the tips...if you could be in about 1" i think it would look better. i am taking it to a muffler shop tomorrow to see if they can cut and re-weld the tips back 1".

any way you could post up a pic from a little further away so we can see how the tips look on the car as a whole, just just from really close up? I'm about to install the borla system on my car today so i'm curious to see the difference.
a pic from further way doesnt give you the justification on how far the tip sticks out from the side...i took a couple and it didnt really show any detail. look at my before and after pic for the tip...you can see a difference of location....just make sure when you put it together that you start from the front and make sure you push the pipes in as far as they go into each other....otherwise you will have trouble putting the muffler section on.
I know this is a fairly old thread, but I just installed a Borla TD yesterday and I had the same issue with my rear muffler text being upside down. Do you know if this is a common issue? I know you can't see it but I know it's there. I liked the tips out a little further. I put them so you could see the Borla text (you got it for a good price, I paid $1100).
I've gotta get some high flow cats or some test pipes next. I want it just a little bit louder.
