Excellent review, I've got a stock exhaust system at the moment (non nismo) and I've been looking at upgrading.

Been looking at the Nismo S-Tune but no one sells it locally in Australia (they said they don't make them anymore?), so maybe Fujitsubo exhaust is the best option.

Looking for something deeper sounding than stock, but not loud so everyone in the street stares at you. Probably something similar to the Golf R32 stock exhaust sound. Would you recommend?

I'm a bit weary of trusting youtube videos because it could probably sound a lot different IRL.

You make a good point about the YouTube vids sounding different. That is why I posted a clip of the stock exhaust as well. This way, even if it may sound a little different in the video, you can at least hear differences between the two when taken by the same recording device.

For the price, this exhaust is NOT worth it if you are only doing the cat-back. It sounds EXACTLY like the exhaust that comes stock on the Nismo. Granted, this is an improvement over a 'normal' stock 350z exhaust, but the 1k+ prioce tag is not worth the minimal sound, look and power improvement. If you are replacing additional exhaust components (especially your cats) the exhaust really livens up, which makes it much more worth it.

My reasoning for the purchase was that I was going to spend around that much on any cat-back I chose and, since I am replacing my cats with test pipes, I can get this clean-looking, quiet exhaust that will still sound good in the end.

Thanks, is the stock Nismo one in your video the "S-Tune"?

I believe the Nismo's (as in the actual car) is made by HKS, where as the S-Tune is made by Fujitsubo/Weldina. Some say the S-Tune carries more of the stock VQ moaning sound at a slightly increased volume over stock. Where as the Legalis seems to use less VQ moan, but it all subjective.

Anyone think differently on the sounds?

Stock Nismo 350z Exhaust. NOT S-Tune.

You are exactly right. I obviously have the Legalis-R and I have driven a 08z with the Nismo S-Tune exhaust (both only have the cat-back exhaust and no other exhaust modifications). They are both quiet, but I would say the S-Tune is a few db louder than the Legalis-R. And yes, the S-Tune carries more of that VQ sound and the Legalis-R tones it down.

I'm late to this thread, but just for future reference, here are a few pics of the S-Tune on my '08 Z:
