I did quite a bit of reading on the x02 sold by cx. I purchased it last night in fact. I know people have been adding the magnaflow 1486 x pipe/muffler. I don't mind te exhaust being loud. I just don't like the raspy ricer tone. I thought the magnaflow did a good job of taking away the rasp but what i couldn't find a clear clip if was test pipes or headers added to the magnaflow and x02. If someone that has a good clip could please post it up. I would appreciate it.

This is a HKS knockoff correct? You can attempt to jerryrig with a x-pipe but not certain it will make a discernible difference.

 

Yep the hks knock off. I heard a clip of it with the magnaflow as mentioned in my first post but it seemed like it may make it a little more quiet than i like.

 

just something to know.. its a glass pack muffler.. ie, it gets louder with age.

hainvg the HKS.. im down for an X pipe for the performance advantage, and the fact that I dont want the exhaust attention anymore.

It will be plenty loud. If youre smart enuff to know about the x pipe, youre smart enuff to know its not a bad addition to have.

Ill be jumping on it soon.. too many projects happening to it right now tho.. Id just like the car BACK.. let alone to send it to the shop again.

 

It (the X-pipe mod) by far, the best thing for that exhaust.

-Prior to doing it, I hated the droning.
-After, the droning was substanially lower.

-Prior to doing it, I thought it sounded like a Cavalier or a V6 Mustang, not a good thing.
-After, sounded like a proper high output V-6.

-Prior to doing it, it was tough to judge the redline. The revs would rise but the pitch would be very similar throughout the upper rev-range.
-After, it was much easier to judge where the revs where without looking at the tach,also gained a hint of the VQ sound back.

Note: It is a raspy exhaust, if that is not your thing, make sure to use the resonated version of the X-pipe (I used the unresonated version). Also I wouldn't call it ricer rasp, more race-car rasp, ultra throaty and deep in tone, and sounds great on deceleration.

I didn't do a back to back dyno of the system before and after but I thought the bottom felt stronger and the top felt a touch weaker after the mod. I have a few vids of the exhaust and I try to post them up later for ya. But take it from me, you will not be disappointed once the x-pipe is in place. Also make sure the guy putting it on straightens out the tips at the same time.

 

I added the magnaflow x-pipe and it made a world of a difference in sound along with test pipes. It now has a nice "rolling rumble" tone.

The x02 h-pipe is crap. I'll post pictures of my setup and sound clips.

I've been researching this exhaust endlessly and xpipe, etc. Zazz and Jairen never get tired of posting pretty much the same answer to the same question over every thread about these reps for the last 12 months without getting annoyed at people for not searching. Thanks for all the good info guys. I most of your threads and got the info I needed, picking up a godspeed rep for 300 picked up today.

Probably 50/50, but really most people are just trying to be funny. They do it to everyone.

 

Im used to the way mine sounds I guess but its beginning to rattle a little and I kinda miss that stockish Z sound. I'll either add an x-pipe or go with new 3 inch single exhaust. I'm sure you've seen my sound clip vid on youtube it has close to a million veiws. It was before my test pipes though.

Resonated Test Pipes
Magnaflow Resonated x-pipe

Gives you a nice "rumble" sound.

Without the x-pipe, (X02 and test pipes only) it sounded like complete **** IMHO. The x-pipe made the exhaust sound more subtle and almost silent at cruising speeds on the freeway. The resonated x-pipe also takes away the "metal" rattle sound associated with test pipes. Love rumble sound it gives at around 2-3k RPM's.

I installed the x-pipe in place of the x02 h-pipe and resonators for sound and maximum tq. Keep in mind that the x02 h-pipe is almost useless. The h-pipe connection is simply a 1/2" hole connecting the two pipes. Also, the x02 resonators do not last very long. I've had two different x02's and the perforated cores in the resonators on both started to come apart.

I used Magnaflow 14386 or 11386.



Here's a picture of the useless h-pipe hole in the X02.

As you can see, it's useless. Compare the size of the hole to the size of the actual piping.


Here's a picture of the resonators with less than 2k miles. You can see the perforated cores starting to come apart.


With all that said, the issues above along with rasp, drone and the infamous metal buzzing sound if you have test pipes or HFC's can be simply cured with a Magnaflow resonated x-pipe for less that $90 shipped from performance peddler plus the cost of installation which is a simple job.

Here's without the resonated x-pipe and with test pipes. You can hear the metal banging sound starting 1:12 and. I couldn't stand it. At 2:37, you can hear the "metal ringing" sound that annoys everyone. Much louder in person though. Once again, x-pipe cured it.

Here's what it sounds like on the dyno with resonated test pipes and the resonated x-pipe. Actually sounds a lot better/cleaner now with some minor adjustments. Sure it's not the best sounding exhaust, but I got it brand new for $260 picked up. Plus it's very quiet on the freeway with little to no drone.

what is the difference in the 2 magnaflow part numbers? it seems to me the 14386 has a bigger gap between the inlets and outlets.

 

One is polished, one is not. 14386, i believe is the polished version.
