How do you know you blew your MAF sensor? Yes, a light coat is all you need. Instructions for K&N recharge say to let it sit for like an hour and make sure their is no oil dripping from the filter.

If you bought the actual JWT filter from the site then it should already come pre-oiled. Now if youre talking about after cleaning it, then all you really need is just a light coat. For example if youre using the K&N filter cleaner then you need enough just to turn the filter reddish tint, if youre using the oil from JWT then back to blue. There is a reason why that little can is 20 bucks, you dont need that much.
Oh and about how often you need to clean it, thats depending on how much you drive your Z. Take a look at your filter from time to time, remember that the intake is the only place where your engine gets air from. Dirty filter is like going for a run in Down Town LA, cleaner filter is going for a run in the country. Cleaner air, better performance. Just my .02

For what it's worth, K&N published a video a while ago about the myth of oil contamination from their filters. I think the information may be relevant to the JWT system as well:

Basically they said they did a ton of testing and found that oil practically "Can't" come off their filter to damage a MAF.
Of course if you gave the poor filter an Oil Bath and completely saturated it, that's another story.
