Default OEM Y-pipe heat sheild - Can i remove it?

so my heat shield is cracking all to hell. It is on my list to replace all of it. but right now im working on suspension and race wheels/hoosiers for autox. so just the test pipes will have to do for now.

Can i remove the heat shield? it rattles really loud and i am sick of putting new bolts in it to hold it together. Below are pics

Yep. Just careful if you do a serious drop on the car.

Mine did the same thing and removed it before getting new y pipe.

Yes. Not sure why Nissan engineers put things like heat shields under the car. Maybe sometime to do with shielding the undercarriage from heat or something silly.

When I took mine off it didn't look like your picture. It just covered the connected pipe.

Looks broken off. Did you have an exhaust leak?

Shields aren't band-aids. They are meant to cover sealed exhaust systems.

Yeah it was def a bad leak. And I already miss it. Getting this fixed totally killed my z's sound. When I installed test pipes last year is when it must have happened. It literally went from stock to loud and mean as ****. No one around has test pipes with oem exhaust so I thought it was how it was supposed to be. It was loud as **** and my wife hated it, but I got a lot if complements on it too.... I fixed this yesterday, and it sounds like I have my stock z back with no test pipes.

Yeah... You can hear the leak in the video. I can hear the test pipes too.

Sorry dude.. You should at least hear the test pipes still. They are the ziggy noise.

Better safe than sorry with the exhaust leak. That stuff comes in the car plus your car should have a little better throttle response.

Sometimes too you can just pick up a used HR pipe and get a little better sound.

The exhaust I want is the motordyne. Doesn't it come with its own ypipe? But not right now. I just miss the loud now. But it does sound much better and more smooth now. I just could not believe I have ridden around like that for a year.

There are a lot of systems with the Y included. I don't know if the motordyne is one of them.

I ran a HR Y and $600 Invidia system back. Was loud super dead and loud. No droning.

Youtube muffler systems on the 350 and see what sound you like best.

My only suggestion would be stay away from the drone sounding systems. Heard plenty of those in person and imo it just cheapens the Z. If you want that drive a honda.

The invidia N1, top speed, and HKS had the best deep sounding exhausts I've heard in person. I've heard dozens of set ups.

Money not an issue and with your pipes, HKS all day. Money an issue and you can find one, top speed. Top Speed N1 system is loud, loud.

Just remember... The pipes are going to add a little something.
