Default Tomei Expreme Ti full catback vs using Motordyne XYZ

Has anybody or any shop done dyno testing of this exhaust yet? From pictures it seems to me that the merge on the Ti ypipe doesn't look as smooth of a transition as the Motordyne. It would be interesting to see a comparison between the two ypipes using the Expreme single exit Ti muffler section on an HR motor

I totally agree and was comparing the two y pipes myself. i couldnt find any dyno comparisons or anything like that. The motordyne is $200 cheaper. I think I'm gonna go with the motordyne xyz for now and eventually get the tomei muffler. If anyone knows of dyno comparisons let us know.

I'm trying to take the cost factor out of the equation. Obviously the tomei ypipe may par better with the rest of the tomei exhaust and you'll see the most weight savings. But that motordyne ypipe just plain looks like it flows better. Interesting to see if there is a difference in power and torque.

Where has motordynes quality been questionable? The only thing they have had is a person bitching because the canisters were not identical as the one as the pic on the site. Nothing to do with quality, just a different supplier, with a canister made slightly different.

^ i second that. It is a lot of money and I'd be mad if I recieved it and it looked less than perfect. But as long as it fit right and sounded right I'd definitely get over it on the first test run.

more like, they have been cutting corners on their y-pipe..its now MIG welded and unpolished. even topspeed pipes are tig welded and polished.

I just ordered a full tomei exhaust gonna out it in next Friday and get retuned, I have a borla exhaust now. I was told I will get some good gains out of switching. I trust that the tomei is gonna be the better y pipe out of that and the motordyne, a lot lighter and flow just as well and sound better being made out of titanium. The only other y pipe that I can think of that looks promising is the amuse y pipe

Do you think since the tomei y pipe isnt resonated it will be extra obnoxious? The only reason id take the xyz over the tomei is since its resonated and its already gonna be louder just from being a single exhaust.

minimal differences...nothing to concern yourself with, in the sense of one making less than the other. Go with the Motordyne just incase you want to quiet it down some later.

Also the Tomei is titanium, therefore you crack or get a hole or leak....it's gonna cost alot more than stainless steel.

I'm looking to pick up the tomei expreme here this week and still run my XYZ w/resonator. I'm hoping to tone the exhaust down when cruising with the resonator. At WOT I hope to make babies cry.

i bought the full Tomei and wish i went this route. Yes the Tomei is crazy loud and im forced to run the silencer included on the street which probably robs power. Regarding the Tomei Ypipe design its definitely a sharper angle into the merge. I have this raspy vibration on close up inspection at the merge when backing off the throttle. Its bad enough that you can hear and even feel a hesitation from inside the car while driving and decelerating. I checked for leaks twice but it appears its turbulence inside the merge. Sux but I will probably be selling the Tomei Ypipe for a resonated Motordyne

I'm expecting to get it installed tomorrow afternoon. I'll be sure to let you know how it sounds/attempt to get a video. One of my neighbors just had their first kid...I'd like to keep the volume at idle only around there for a while.
