Default NISMO Cat-back exhaust

Does anyone here have the NISMO cat-back exhaust described in this article. If so, are you happy with it? How much did it cost? Thx.

I have it on my '04 Roadster and it sounds sweeeeet with the top down or up. Good performance numbers also-around 6hp added.
It was already installed at the dealer when I bought it-paid around $950

When we are talking about how the Nismo sounds how close is it to the stock exhaust? You guys know what I mean when your outside and hear that exhaust note somewhere and you look up and sure enough it is a z or g.. Does the Nismo keep that sound and just make it louder and deeper or does it change it comepletly?

Robbyn, I had the NISMO exhaust but removed it. The tone is great and the build quality is fantastic but it was just a little too loud for my taste in certain conditions (mainly 2000-3500 RPMs under load). I think I may be the only one with this opinion. The tone is similar to the stock exhaust but deeper.

In cabin sound clip of NISMO Cat Back Exhaust and Random Technology High Flow Cat's

*** VDC Is turned OFF that is not a CEL ***

SOUND CLIP standing Still from Out Side of the car The clip is Starting. Then Rev to 3000rpm and let it go back to idle. Then up to 6000rpm and go back down to 1k..

For this clip I am topping out 2nd and 3rd gear shifting into 4th. WOT, going up hill though ... Couldnt find an open street this afternoon. Ill try to get a freeway launch tonight along with an our side video of a drive by.

I will also do a video of the Dyno Pull when I get it dyno'ed this week.

*** EDIT ***

I had my dyno pull after driving for an hour to get to Powertrain Dynamics. Talked for a while with a guy from down the row of shops. Laughing about things people came in with attached to their car's to try and make power. The funniest thing was a WEED WACKER as a blower!

Any way to the point of this. MY DYNO!

My car was warm from driving for an hour, out side temp was similar to the previous DYNO. On the same DYNO

Previous DYNO 11/01/03 = NISMO Cat Back Exhaust
Latest DYNO 11/18/03 = NISMO Cat Back Exhaust & Random Technology High Flow Cat's

11-01-03 = 241.4 Actual RWHP / 231.3 Actual Torque (ft-lbs)
11-17-03 = 248.0 Actual RWHP / 239.3 Actual Torque (ft-lbs)

Gain = 6.6 RWHP / 8 Torque

I am VERY pleased with the Torque gain down low and how the gain is across the full span of the powerband. I loose TQ and HP on the 6400 mark faster then with only the exhaust. I am hoping an intake of some kind will fix that.

It took me over 3 hours to drive home so I dont exactly feel like bending over my car and putting in the K&N Typhoon.

So! Soon to come, Typhoon Install (tommorow) and Dyno of the Typhoon added to this.

Below is the Pre / Post DYNO sheet and link to a video of the Dyno pull where you can really hear the exhaust in action up to 140+ MPH!

Hmmm..interesting. In that autoweek article, it said that the Headers made 13 HP and 13 ft-lb with no CATS! So, most of the gains are from the CATS? Are we wasting our money with the Headers, when we should be swapping out the CATS?

Anyone caught that?

I have seen NISMO Exhaust on some super charged cars...

I have seen stock exhaust on a TT car...

I have seen stock exhaust with high flow cats, cams, etc etc etc...

the piping on the NISMO exhaust is large.. goes from 2.5 to 3.16 at the collector and in the mid pipe... very well designed... can imporve the nismo exhaust by adding a JIC Y Pipe...

putting on high flow cats will give you the same gains as headers... but much less $ per HP... do headers as a later mod...

I agree with Jason. With all the Z's here we mod on a DAILY basis now... the RT Cat's seem to be the biggest HP improvement for the dollars spent.... by far!!!

Jason,
Very nice numbers from the cats. A couple of minor comments:
1) the A/F looks lean in the range under 4500 RPM or so. That might be a slight problem, but who knows.

2) I'm assuming that the graph is calibrated incorrectly. In other words, the horizontal axis of the graph is shifted to the right by 500 RPMs. The HP and torque crossover should be at 5250 RPM and not 5750.

3) Excellent torque gained throughout the whole RPM range.

I still need to get a re-print of the graph... if you notice... the highest line on the HP reads 275 and on the TQ side it says 250...

If I was lean above 4500 rpm's I would worry... I am rarely below 4000 RPM's...
