The new plenum gives you a weight savings of about 4 lbs. I will re-weigh them, but the stocvk without the throttle body weighed 9 lbs, and ours weighed in at 5 lbs.

We will also have our 2nd prototype on our own car here at our shop tomorrow, so hopefully between all_bark and myself, we can get all the kinks worked out. Worst case scenario is that I will send all_bark the 2nd prototype once it has been fully tested and he can dyno off of that.

All_bark, just give me a list of names if you want of the people who have been helpful and I will make sure to take care of them.

After looking at the inside plenum picture, I am concern about the amount of airflow right at the struct tower dip. It looks like it may disrupt airflow even thought it curves back up after the stb dip.

will it make a difference on the velocity and volumetric of the air flow? any engineer out there can enlight us on this a little?

LSDU said that a 9 degree up and down in the plenum top will not disrupt airflow and that it takes .25 inches to go down, is down for .25 inches and is back up to top by .25 inches after that. So from uppermost flat portion to uppermost flat portion you are looking at .75 inches in length and 9 degrees or less of rise/slope. It should be just fine.

sorry doc, to my understanding it will be a few more months, (at best) he is making this one to replace both the upper and lower parts of the plenum, should be significantly lighter and better for FI cars! (I believe in aluminum but I could be wrong)

time to get on the waiting list!

I'm guessing that there were no side shots taken showing the slope of the plenum since you haven't posted them?

There was a small hole (vacuum leak) in the new plenum. So it has to be fixed before its dynoed.

Just wondering if it would be possible to get these made without the strut tower bar dip? I'm sure there would be a market for them since the G35 and FX35s don't have strut tower bars.

This may improve airflow.

Would this be too much trouble? Perhaps some Z owners may want it without the STB dip and use Crawford's STB instead. Just for the better airflow....

TIA.

There is nothing saying that airflow is decreased with the dip. That has yet to be tested. Is your real statement, The dip looks kinda funny on cars like mine that do not come with STBs? I would agree with that but not the airflow argument.

Those are a couple good points, but it's difficult to produce a bunch of molds right off the bat. When LSD took on the project, one of the criteria was the retention of the stock strut bar because that is in no way possible with the crawford unit.

For the time being G35 and FX35 users might be happier with the Crawford unit because it should flow better (even though LSD says that the dip is very minimal). Although, a G35 owner may want to add a strut tower brace at a later period.

It all depends on what you want, and unfortunately it's tough to satisfy everyone with one product.

LOL

Yea that's what I meant exactly. Ha ha ha.

We FXers don't want the dip!

I have considered the Crawford. Would like to know what gains this plenum produces (with and without the dip would be nice too) so I can decide on which to get.
