Default Helix Test Pipes

I wanted to get the forums opinion on the helix test pipes. Does anybody have any sound clips or any members have installed them? Did anybody install these themselves and how easy was it to install them? If anybody had it professionally done how much did you pay or what do you think a fair price for install is?

Thanks in advance for all your advice

I can speak to the ease of removing the stock cats and installing test pipes. I installed the Kinetix myself on jack stands. If you have a 14mm open end wrench and a 14mm deep well socket and some various extensions you can do this yourself. You will also need a 7/8" open end wrench to get the sensor off the cat.

Basically you remove three nuts on the cat/manifold, two nuts on the cat/exhaust, and the sensor from each cat. Save all four exhaust gaskets to reuse and install the pipes in reverse order.

The hardest thing will be getting one of the nuts off on the driver’s cat which is located up and around the steering linkage. I have some nice scratches on my wrist from doing this. Everything else is fairly easy to get a wrench to.

I put all four corners up on stands at about 18" off the floor so I could lie under the entire car there comfortably. Figure a good afternoon to do the job.

Yeah I know its gonna sound raspy. I just got it installed today, its loud but I like it. I'll try to post pics soon but have not recorded a sound clip. Anyone that wants to hear it in person can here it at the so cal meet on 2/29/4. The helix pieces are nice but not for the faint of heart. these things are really loud but only from 3000-4500 rpm while accelarating. as far as just maintaining speeds at any rpm the car is sedate in sound.

you can't pass smog with the helix test pipes as these pipes remove the catalytic converter. you will have to reinstall the OEM cats when its time to smog the car.
