ok guys, so i finally got my motor replaced due to excessive oil consumption, i got it back and have already driven 504 miles on it, not even 1k on this new motor. so this morning i check my oil and it is almost right at the middle of the H and L mark..wtf is that??? well im giving it the benefit of the doubt because its a new motor and i need to break it in first, but is this anywhere near normal????
my old motor would burn 1.5 litres per 1k
and now this seems to be burning 1.5 litre per 500miles

oh ok then, thanks, but i'll still keep an eye out for it, because i forgot to check the oil right when i got it back from ther service dept. so i assumed they poured in 5 qts. so i'll just take the current reading i have as full. thanks again
So how's the new engine teating you now that you've had it a few months? I have an appointment with my dealer today for my final oil consumption test. I'm assuming that they are going to replace the engine. This sounds like a radical treatment to me.. I'm wondering if you've had any more issues with oil consumption and/or difference in performance with the new engine? You'll have to excuse my ignorance on this too, but what's the difference between getting a new small block versus a large block?
Thanks.
Joel
Thanks.

well i haven't changed out my oil yet, probably change the oil early oct. (still under 3000 miles) but had already poured one qt into the engine because it ran it down to the "L" mark. i was told that new cars or new engines, the dealer puts in 4 qts of oil only, so i won't start keeping track until i change my oil. although only 4 qts was initually put in, it still consumed enough for me to pour in 1 qt of my own oil. performance wise the same as before i got my longblock replaced, so no power differences there, just a peace of mind.
they replace motors by short and long blocks. long blocks are complete engines, and short blocks is everything without the heads, so you can consider short blocks to be partially rebuilt engines. so if you can, go w/ the long blocks. im seriously considering sell the car, although its a badass car, i got a dud.
good luck w/ yours!

Thanks for the input.
So, you're considering selling because of the oil issue, of are you having too many other issues for it to be worth keeping? I hate seeing Z enthusiasts jump ship - it concerns me...

well its everything all added together. i complained to NNA about all the issues that i've been having and requested for them to give me an extended warranty, and they pretty much said, sorry, your out of lucky. i have 5,000 more miles before my powertrain warrant expires. its at 36,000 or 3 years right? so yea, im almost there. and im just afraid down the line that i'll have another major mechanical problem. i don't even drive the car hard, so i don't believe this should be happening to me, but if i was actually beating the snot out of my car then i would gladly accept any mechanical problems, but thats not that case.
i am still a Z enthusiasts, these are great cars, i would glady keep this car for a long period of time, but now im not able to due to my personal experience. i also would like to try other vehicles too.

Anyone had any smoking problems?
Mine is burning a quart every 500 miles, and I am doing a consumption test but the extreme smoke coming out of the exhaust is driving me crazy!
They know it's burning oil but they say I still have to do the entire test which takes a while.
I am waiting for a call back from NNA to do something now. I cant drive it in this condition. Pretty embarrising accelerating and not seeing anyone behind you because of the white cloud of smoke.

that must be the cause of the oil consumption, if u can actually see the smoke then its burning oil at a ridiculous rate. i mean, im fine w/ "SOME" consumption, like 1/2 qt every 1 miles is ok w/ me, but anything over that is ridiculous, i mean, if thats the case, you don't even need to change your oil anymore, just get real good synthetics and just keep on pouring it in whenever its low, because it'll eventually burn up all the older oil. just my thought, but i know thats not how it works.
Yeah that's what I told the dealer, I'm fine with the consumption, but I cant deal with the smoke.
I'm trying to get Nissan to fix the smoking rather than the oil burning to speed up the process.
Does anyone know if they pull the motors to repair them, or leave them in the car?
I was thinking about getting them to put some headers on the car if they do.
