Default Sounds like...two washers clicking together?

First time I noticed this was a couple nights ago. Although its my fault as I usually have the radio on so when I get in and start it up, by the time I get situated and take off, I wouldnt have heard it.

Got in my car in the parking lot at the end of the day, started it up, put down the window (no radio on) shifted into R (AT) with foot still on the brake and before I take my foot off I hear this "tink" - like the sound of two washers being dropped together or the sound a nail would make when dropped on cement. In fact at first I thought I had run over a nail so I got out and looked all around, but nothing. I hear it best out the drivers side window but no idea where its coming from. Listened to it a few other times that night, oddly enough doesnt happen every time, but seemingly happens everytime the car is cold - morning or night.

This could be a completely normal sound, even in the 3 weeks I've had the car I wouldnt have heard it - or I could be completely hearing things.

Sound like it's coming from the rear axle? I know this is a problem on the 03's. If it's repetative, take it to the dealer.

Or is the lose washer in the shifter that some have reported. Axle should click only when you are moving, if I am not wrong.

I just brought my 2003 AT z to the dealer for the same problem. Service guy told me it has to do with the rear brakes and they know about the problem. That is all they told me & set up an appointment to fix it. Sounds to me like it is Tranny related cause it happens when I put the car in drive / reverse. I also hear it driving with the windows open when the car shifts. It is really noticible if I stop on a steep hill and accelerate from a stop on the hill. I think the crap the guy told me about the brakes was BS like usual.

Yeah, had mine serviced recently and it was the rear axles! It shows up as a $99.00 cost, yet it is covered under warranty!

The sound that you're describing is similar to “dropping coins on the ground.” If so, review this service bulletin:

Service Bulletin Num : 04065a
Date of Bulletin: JUL 11, 2005

View Document
Component: SUSPENSION
Summary: 2003 – 2005 NISSAN 350Z; CLICKING NOISE FROM REAR AXLES

Default “said they are recalling 03-up 350z”

Not to be a stickler for details, but there are no “recalls” for the 350Z. There are dozens of service bulletins, but no recalls.

yeah nissan is good about no recalls. they just issue TSB's and do not mention them to consumers unless you have a problem and assign which one is applicable to you. i have the clicking noise described. i called the dealer about it and they indicated it's the rear axle issue. i was told to bring it in. well i brought it in and they went through it however the parts for the new fix for the issue are on back order. the service advisor showed me the stack of paper work for other people who have ordered the parts as well. they ordered the parts bolt & washer etc and are going to phone me when they arrive. the service tch mentioned the car is safe to drive though. that was 3 weeks ago.
