Well, I thought my dealer was being responsible and thoughtful. They said my alignment was to be done when new tires for the front arrived. I received the call on Monday, telling me the tires had arrived, to take it in for alignment. Left it in the morning, at 4:30 p.m. tried to contact them with no luck. Then I went straight to the dealer, and after some waiting they told me the car was ready. Lo and behold, when I checked it out, it had the SAME tires. I told them so, and then they called the tech. He said that Nissan was not allowing new tires to be installed because of that problem, they just swapped sides. I'm calling NNA today, I already have a case # cause I thought something like this might happen.
So they order you two tires, they come in then magically NNA says, HOLD UP, nah can't install em. Thats dumb

At 23,000 miles, the new front two tires have come in. I dropped her off last night after giving her a thorough bath. I pointed out that I had scratched one rim slightly but the others were perfect. They're also going to check the rear axle noise--a series of ticks when applying torque to the rear end. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Has anyone replaced their "in-cabin" filter? I was wondering if it helped with some of the smog-smell?

Default question,...

where is the "in-cabin" filter? I would like to change mine just to see if it makes a difference! It doesn't smell or anything but I'd like to change it every once in a while!

Supirio, I just called the dealer. Their reply was that they received the order from NNA that same Monday, after they called me. But I guess that they were too busy to tell me that and instead swapped sides, figuring I would be dumb enough not to tell a new tire from an old one.

Exactly, dealerships try to pull fast ones on you until you show them your not stupid, then they seem to give it to you straight..

nissan service most of the time..

We'll see how my dealer experience is, my car only has 500 miles on it but I want window grease fixed, rattles in the hatch area, etc, we'll see what they say for each problem I'm recording =)

It looks like we are out on our own ladies and gentleman! They don't even mention that nissan engineers are even working on the problem or anyone for that matter! I still love my car though! Maybe it would be nice if they did too!

Calvin - we're you at the Indy show last weekend? I spoke with one of the Nissan reps for quite some time on Friday night, and he told me that the Roadster will have the same problems with alignment/feathering. He also told me that Nissan was very aware of the problem, was working furiously to fix it, and that he expected a TSB to fix the problem to be out in 2-3 months.

Yes, I was there! I don't remember seeing a chrome silver touring on friday night!? I talked to franklin and julian, and explained what I had been going through and I didn't get that response. But, all in all, I had a great time there at the show! I had never been to Indy before and it was a great experience to talk to other Z owners! Everyone was so friendly and informative. What did you look like? I thought I at least spoke to everyone?! Did you have a dealership sign on your doors? I just don't remember? People were coming and going friday night!

My Baby's got new shoes! What a difference. The noise level at 23,000 miles on the old nobbies was deafening. They also balanced my rears which was unexpected, unrequested, and unreported. Why is it that the service dept. continues to do additional work to my car without telling me??? I appreciate any extras just like the next guy, but they could tell me!

They also blew off my request to check the rear-end ticking noise due to the fact I have more than 12,000 miles. However, I mentioned the noise in March when they did the alignment and also at the end of May when they ordered my tires. At that point, I was told that they couldn't hear it due to the road noise of the front tires. This time I had a tech ride with me to hear it. I guess I need to make another call to NNA.

Oh yeah---I almost forgot. NO SCRATCHES on my rims. However, they did leave the adhesive that keeps the balance weights stuck to the wheel. Does anyone know how to get that stuff off? It looks like silicone or something similar. Thanks for any info.

Default New Tires and Alignment Complete

Heh where is ezchief !! any updates on your alignment and tires I just got my tires put on and the alignment done to Nissans spec and at 110kph and above there is a very bad scraping type sound coming from the front end along with a serious shimmy and vibration. Talked to the SM and he said bring the car in next week and we will take another look. I want to tell him to use the specs that ezchief was using but I need another update to see if the specs that were used are better

More than likley the vibration is from tire balance than alignment.

whew, no more painful z withdrawls...javascript:smilie('') just got my baby back today from the dealer. finally had them check my alignment to correct minor feathering problems. they replaced the compression rod just as prescribed in the TSB, but not my tires. the service foreman said if i had a couple more thousand miles put on he would have had to replace them... aw nutz. i've kept a pretty good eye on tire wear and they still looked pretty decent at 7500mi. like most, i wasn't able to walk away without being worse for wear, though. they scratched one of my rims when they rotated my front tires. so they say they're ordering me another rim along with driver/passenger windows since they scratched both when i had them take care of the grease TSB. why is it that you take a car in for one thing & they (being the grease monkeys) always create another issue? what a vicious circle javascript:smilie('')

if anyone is interested, here are the new specs (don't remember seeing anybody posting them, pretty damn long thread going):

Front Specs:
L/R Camber (Min: -1.33; Nom: -0.58; Max: -0.6)
L/R Caster (Min: 7.42; Nom: 8.17; Max: 8.92)
L/R Toe (Min: 0.00; Nom: 0.02; Max: 0.04)

Cross Camber (Min: -0.75; Nom: 0.00; Max: 0.75)
Cross Caster (Min: -0.75; Nom: 0.00; Max: 0.75)
Total Toe (Min: 0.00; Nom: 0.04; Max: 0.08)

Rear Specs:
L/R Camber (Min: -2.08; Nom: -1.58; Max: -1.08)
L/R Toe (Min: 0.02; Nom: 0.04; Max: 0.05)

Total Toe (Min: 0.04; Nom: 0.08; Max: 0.11)

had alignment done at 1700, wear on outside front tires starting. Now at 6000 and all is wearing well. Service Manager will check alignment everytime I bring the car in for an oil change (5000mi). He said till NIssan finds the fix for our front end problems he will replace the tires if they wear badly.

The compression rod did not work, I do not have feathering problems yet but I expect them soon. Trouble is I wanted to change the rims now I am afraid if I do Nissan will not replace after market items and won't work on the car...ugh! I wonder what changed at the factory that they started screwing this up.

What's involved in the replacement of the compression rod? Do they have to remove wheels to do this?

I'm taking mine in this week to have it done, and I will have my new rims put on tomorrow...kind of worried.

LEMON LAW UPDATE,
I got a call from NNA on Friday concerning our official request for a buy back of the Z under the VA Lemon law. They are flying in a rep to look at the car. The VA law says that they have 15 days to fix the car.

Has any one had them officially inspect there car? I was wondering what the do? Is there an updated TSB on the tire issue? If there is not an official fix now, we are going to insist on the buy back.
I refuse to be an other test victim, with voodoo alignment specs and a third set of tires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having my front set replaced tomorrow. I was wondering - are the people that have changed the front springs having the same problem?
