Default Need help with weird rattles and noises with my Z. Cant stand it anymore!

I have had this Z for one year and a half. It seems that all its rattles and noises are growing worse and worse. Have any of this sounds sound familiar to you guys? If you guys have or had them let me know please or possible fixes.

Sound#1:

When driving slowly over a bump or in a parkign lot or whenever the car tends to shake a bit there is a sound like a popping sound from the rear left and rear right side of the car. It has nothing to do with springs since i had this with my Tein S-techs and have them now with my Tanabe springs. It almost sounds like water moving, and NOOOOO its not the gas.

Sound #2:

Behind the center dash there is an ongoing rattle.

Sound #3:

Inside passenger side door the car rattles ocassionally with no particular driving condition more like whenever it wants.

Sound #4:

Rear hatch bottom panels rattle also whenever they feel liek it.

Situation:

Why is it that on certain Z's the exhaust muffler or tips are cricket. Like for example the tips look lower on one side and higher on the other. Doesnt matter what exhaust it is some Z's have this. Not even delaer can fix GRRRR!!!

Overall is there anything to reduce exterior noise. I heard of somehtign like dynamat or something. Any info would be greatly APPRECIATED!!!!!

sound#1 - could be the rear axles clicking... does it sound like a sloshing (like water) or is it a creaking sorta sound?

sound#2 - best bet is to pull apart the center console and look to see if there is anything loose. have you changed the radio? maybe something is loose from that, like a screw or bolt or something.

sound#3 - there are styrafoam blocks in the doors. mine was loose on the driver side door and was making noise. so i just pulled off the door and took out the styrafoam block. disclaimer: that styrafoam block might be there for safety reasons so don't take my advice of removing it unless you are willing to accept the risk.

sound#4 - what bottom panels in the hatch are rattling?

to quiet down the car you can add something like dynamat, or fatmat, or b-quiet. best place to put it if you don't want to add too much (due to weight reasons or cost cutting since it can get pretty expensive) is in the rear hatch, and especially over the rear wheel wells. if you plan on doing most of the car, expect to add something crazy like 100lbs, and spend lots and lots and lots of time doing it, or lots and lots of money if you get a shop to do it. it is a huge pita!

no prob! if you want to save a little money and get the same results in the hatch skip the dynamat and search for fatmat or b-quiet on ebay. they are just as effective, and not as expensive. there are some other brands too, but i can't remember the names.

edead i'm gonna guess is like the same as dynamat. it's basically a sheet with like tar (that's a guess it might not really be tar) on it. you lay it where you want and it is very sticky. and you have to make sure to roll it in so the layer is actually all stuck to the surface.

Yup, check it out at www.edesignaudio.com tell them ravi sent you, talk to chris.

Get either edead v1, which is dynamattish, or go with edead v3, which is a paint on insulator. that is what I purchased...

peace

I can't stand all the rattles either. I must have spent countless hours on searching the forum and reducing all the rattles with partial success. I am planning to dynamat and do noise reduction for the whole car. I think you are in So Cal so let me know if you need any help. I have become obessessed with getting rid of all the d*mn rattling!!!!!

Does anyone know how to remove the dash piece/pod at the bottom corner of the windshield? If you tap on it, it rattles, and it most certainly rattles when going over bumps.

One of the oddest rattle/clicking that I have encountered sounded like it came from the dash, however it is actually my rear view mirror. I can squeeeze ahold of the mirror and it goes away.

Rattling sounds bad, try having a clicking noise as you brake, that's freaking embarrassing because everyones checking out your car and when you brake, they hear a clicking noise. =) lol..that's the price we pay for a bad a@@ ride!

i had the annoying center dash rattle fixed under warranty last fall by the dealer....it was a loud rattle like someone was tapping on the dash with a pencil. Make sure the passenger seat belt is hooked up when not in use or else you'll get a rattle.

I have that same funny rattle around the front center console. But the one that irks me most is this funny rattle, that sounds like a washer or loose bolt, that is coming from around my back driverside wheel. I took it to the dealership this morning and they are clueless right now. It is like your first rattle you described JM, but it doesn't sound like water moving more like metal on metal. But it's on the outside underneath the car.
The tech pleased my car with lube and will check back on it wednesday after a day of driving.

Just a note: If anyone has a loud pinging (metal on metal) sound coming from their wheel, there is a bulletin out (NTB04-065B) on it about how axle flanges on the car were not lubricated right and would need that done. Not exactly sure what years or anything. This is all Nissan said to me.
