Just bought an 03 Touring that my Local dealer showed the fuel recall wasn't done. (said "outstanding") So I had Nissan take care of it. It wasn't until he brought it to my attention on this recall and I have two other 03's at home. I have noticed the smell of fuel lately driving the Performance. Not sure if it has anything to do with it but after searching this thread, I see my other two Z's fall in the Vin number category! I never got a letter for either one and didn't know about it until I bought this Touring!! I sent an email to the GM to double check both of the other Vin's since I bought them used. I hope this has been done already and the smell of fuel is something else. Dammmmit. I'll know in the morning. (worst part of this....the performance if FI!!)

The fix involves replacement of hoses near the back of the car, they have to drop the rear end and tank, so it should not matter what's under the hood. IIRC, the hoses were for EVAP control or similar, and were made of a material that if exposed to elements long enough might begin to break down.
As to letters they would have been sent to original owner. I still get correspondence from NNA on my '03 Base, which I haven't had for a few years.
If they didn't already tell you, when you bring the car in, do so with less than a half tank of fuel.

Great! Thanks Steve for the head's up on the amount of gas in the tank. I think I am probably more worried about them putting one of them on a lift because last time I had it there, they said they had a very difficult time doing so due to the 2 inch clearance. Afraid they will damage the kit in this process. I have the Vin numbers being run now so i will know here shortly.
I'm just wondering, why the smell of gas lately. And it isn't from the fuel pump because I leaned back to it and it isn't coming from there. It is coming from under the car because it is stronger when I open the door.

BTW if you ever have the "Axle Clicking Sound", most notable when driving slowly with the window down, it's a mechanical click-click, sounds like it's under the car toward the back. The TSB for the axle clicking is just re-lube of the axle spines and new bolts which happens to be open and easily accessed when they do this recall work. It's a warranty TSB item but if you were out of initial warranty it's a cost item, but the recall work should take care of it.
If you're smelling gas when you walk up the car esp if it has just been sitting, that makes me wonder if you have something wrong in the EVAP emissions control. As temp/pressure changes the tank breathes into the vapor recovery bits, if something is venting, clogged, etc.
When they do the hose replacement they'll be touching things right under some of the primary components responsible for vapor recovery, I'd just mention it.

It is actually when I am driving it. If I come to a light, I can faintly smell it. If I open the door, it seems a bit stonger. Just started happening the last 3 times I drove it, last night being one of them. I went to a club meeting, so only drove 2 miles each way. When i came home and pulled in the garage, I noticed it as soon as i opened the door.
And yes, I am out of warranty but I will have them check out the TSB issue as well.
Still waiting on the 2 Vins to come back. ~chewingnails~

Look at the bright side - having 2 or 3 350Z's isn't a terrible thing. I sold my '03 when I had to make room with 5 other cars, the G has been good, but in an ideal world I'd still have both

Yeah I know the feeling of the multi cars. We have three 350z's, a 93 300zx, Navigator and Explorer. Then my son has an SRT4, 240sx and a bike. Definitely a full driveway! haha
OK, good news. Both the other Z's show no open recalls! Big relief. Now I just need to figure out where the gas fumes are coming from in the one. Very faint, but, they're there. Thanks for your help and advice Steve.

I did mine last month , it took awhile ,but at least I have the piece of mind that it's done right ,and everything is torqued right , it was under $50 for the hose kit and the driveshaft bolts, I didn't need the exhaust gasket because I changed the exhaust , its nice not to smell gas all the time. , Craig.

Quick question, i just bought my 03 Z with 70k miles 3months ago. Im not sure if any of the recalls have been fixed. Do i have to be under warranty in order for them to fix the issues free of charge? Can i just go there and ask them to run my VIN and they fix the problem for free? Or do i have to pay? Sorry for the noob question, thanks
