Default Seat Belt Retraction

I'm having trouble with my driver side seatbelt. It doesn't seem to retract back all the way. I have a feeling it's twisted the opposite direction inside the slot where it retracts because the seatbelt is facing down instead of up like the passenger side. However, I'm not positive if that's always been the case.

Any suggestions on trying to fix this problem?

Mine is like that too , I have to manually retract it. It has always been like that it is a pain but I am used to it now.

I'm scheduled to have my tires taken care of for feathering this weekend. Hopefully I can have the dealer look into the seat belt issue as well. More than anything, it's annoying, especially when it's hanging w/o properly retracting and I'm going to close the door. I'm afraid it'll slam with the seat belt, and that's never pleasant.

Seat belts are warranteed for 10yrs unlimited miles. Federal requirement I beleive plus its stated in the manual. Try to get it fixed. These belts are made by Takata and they used to have a problem with the d-ring collecting gunk and getting more friction. I would think they since fixed that so it may be the retractor spring itself. I'm supprised to see that yours is slow to retract since mine snaps back so fast it marks the trip pieces. I have an 03 so maybe complaints made them change it to a lower spring force. Cant get everyone happy...

So, it seems to have corrected itself. I'm pretty sure it was just twisted. However, I wasn't able to untwist it myself by pulling it all the way out and retracting, or anything else. But, the problem seems to have gone away for now, so oh well. Thanks for the help guys!

I am having a problem with my passenger side seat belt. It is stuck in the retracted position and will not move (the driver side works fine). I checked with the dealer and they said only the belt itself is covered (from ripping, tearing, etc), not anything that moves. Basically, they are quoting an estimate of ~$250 to repair the locked seat belt.

I did some basic online searching and could not find anything that states there is a federal law about any kind of seat belt warranty. I also don't see anything related to a seat belt warranty in my owner's manual. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Check your Nissan Warranty Information booklet in the seat belt section. If you cannot find it you can get it from: http://www.nissanusa.com/apps/techpubs

It says :"This warranty covers any Nissan supplied seat belt or related component, that fails to function properly during normal use within 10 years... etc"

Your dealer is wrong.

Thanks, I think the key is checking in the Nissan Warranty Information booklet, as you mentioned. I was checking the Owner's Manual, under the warranty section.

Plus, I will also try a different dealer...

Your seatbelt and its mechanisms (the latch and roller mechanism) and the anchor points are covered forever. This is safety equipment that should never fail.

The only exception is an owner who modified the equipment. That is why you should have the dealer perform the repair (actually it is a replacement).
