Default Update: Paint corrosion on trunklid, tire noise, oil streak, gaspump cutoff

I dropped off my car at the dealer monday morning. The service manager called me back with these updates :
1. Tire noise : The tech said there's cupping on all 4 tires. Nissan is ordering 4 new tires for me. I asked if there was a toe in/out problem, and he just said that there was a problem with a certain VIN range, and it has been fixed.
2. Oil streak : NNA advised the dealer to hold off on doing anything, because a TSB/recall(??) is coming soon. NNA is aware of the problem with the streaks and will change something inside the doors on all Z's (I'd assume).
3. Paint corrosion : NNA is paying to get the trunklid repainted. I am getting the Nissan badge taken off the trunk while they're at it.
4. Gaspump cutoff : The service manager told me that they filled up 11 gals of gas without a problem, but NNA acknoleges the problem. He said that there is some kind of a filter inside the gaspump nozzle, and if it is not clean it cutsoff. He wants me to go ask the gas station guys if the filters are clean. I can foresee weird looks when I ask them that. Anyway, it's not a critical problem, so I'll let it slide for now.

I will get my car back on friday, or on monday....without the nissan badge on it's ***.
I'll keep yall updated.

sounds good, I hope I get cupping on my tires, a nice new set at 8000miles or so, and an alignment would be awesome. they may not be great tires, but they can only be worse as worn out shitty tires, and I cant afford new rims and tires quite yet.

I talked to the service manager yesterday, and he said that (apparantly) there was a defect in the manufacturing process of the tires that were put on a certain VIN range. The defect would cause the front tires to develop cupping/scalloping even if there was no toe in/out problem. They are ordering 2 new tires for me.

They swapped out the rental sentra with a montecarlo. How does anyone drive a car like that? I feel like I'm driving the Titanic. But much better than the Sentra

I had my grease streak on the windows fixed. I had the window motors excess grease removed and new felt guides-(or what ever they are called) placed on the car.

Does anyone know the vin range for the tire/toe in problem? I am guessing it is on the early builds of the car.

I have never seen this windlw streaking problem everyone always mentions.

Haven't had the gas pump problem either.

I'd have to get the tires checked to see if that is going on. What is the VIN range that had this problem. If you don't know that, could you (or anyone else with the tire problem) post your VIN?

Thanks!

Thanks for passing along information and your experiences.
I too sure wish I could find a list of VINs affected by these problems.

Like tansmission grinding XXXX VIN though XXXX VIN

Tire scalloping XXXX VIN through XXXX VIN.

Oil leaks...

Etc....

Sure would be nice.

All I have is the tire and window problem. I have tried and tried to fix the window and it still greases up. This is what is keeping me from tinting. NNA said to give the tires 200 miles after they swaped the L and R tires and corrected alignment. I think it is getting worse. I am calling Nissan tomorrow to order some new fronts.

my vin is 0153. I was hoping that low of a vin gets double, even triple checked for quality. So far looking good. Just minor issues

Unless numerous gas stations have bad filters in their pumps I think they are incorrect. Have had problems filling up at least 10 times at different locations.

Default tires swapped from side to side?

VandyZ, when you said swapped L&R tires did you mean they put new tires or actually put the left to right and visa-versa?

Default Front tires...

My dealer removed the fronts from the rims and THEN swapped them side to side (@ 11k) and asked me to "try it now and see if they are still noisy." Yep, 500 miles later they are "still noisy." Only now, instead of being noisy from 30mph and slower, they are noisy all the way up the speedometer. I have been trying to get them to replace the tires, but the shop foreman has resisted that and tells me to call Nissan Consumer affairs to try and do it thru them. That is not good enough for me and so I went into the service dir. office last week to tell them why I was leaving their dealership. That got their attention! Also, I told them it was poor business practice to lose a customer who belonged to a LARGE, world-wide 350 group (thank you My 350z.com!) over two tires. Shook em' up! To make a long story short, they called me back yesterday and left a message to please call them back as they had "good news" for me.
It could have been handled much better for a measly few hundred dollars (their cost) for two tires and I would be feeling much better thru this deal, but some dealers just don't seem to get the picture do they?
I'll post what they have decided to do to rectify this situation. This is important because I am hitting the road in a few weeks for a 5 week solo road trip around the country in the Z and I can't see even starting out until this is resolved.
BTW, thx to whomever posted that he was getting steadily declining mileage and perhaps it was the tire scrubbing that was doing it. I am also seeing my mileage deteriote as well. I will post if things change once this is straightened out. Regards, Jim

Yep, put the L on the R and the R on the L. This put the cupping on the out side of the rim. Like others have said noise is more noticable just driving not just when slowing down. It really sucks.
