The dipstick is sooooo much fun. I normally can get a good reading. I took mine in and they said it was down 1/3 quart in 1000 miles. I disagreed because I check it first thing in the morning and it is down 1/2 and he checked it hot.

Now after 500 miles it is down again 1/2 quart when I checked it this weekend.

What you are seeing is exactly what I saw though. After the first change, it was significantly down at 3000 miles.

When the dealer changed it the first time, did he use conventional or synthetic?

I have no idea what they used, and I have no idea of how much they filled up with either so this isn't a very accurate assumption. Gonna have to wait and see if its consuming on the next oil change.

They dont use synthetic, just regular oil. Im about 200 miles into my conumption test and Im already down 1/4 quart. I brought my own oil for them use (mobil 1). Im going to be pretty low by the time the test is done, another 800 miles. I hope it doesnt get too low, because Im obviously not going to add any oil.

Default consumption test

Looks like I'm also a victim of the oil consumption problem. I start tomorrow. The tech guy took a look at my dip stick, and said I was 1 qt. short of low mark. I told him I just added 2 qts last week. Mileage is not 3000k, but I started hearing pinging at 2300miles. Funny, how he said short block would solve this problem. He said before he's only seen this problem 3x , once in 03,04,05....I should have asked him why he thought the short block was the resolution? so guys is it?

thnx for all your help

Marathonhunter, I cant speak for your car,,,,but my 06 had 1900 miles on it,,,,burning oil,,,,I was fortunate,,,they just replaced my whole engine. It took them almost a month to get it,,,for they were getting the corrected engines from Nissan. I go in Monday for my 1200 mile follow up....this sucks
