I think tires are covered by the manafacturer and excluded from the "bumper to bumper"

Interesting scenario.

If my car had it, they would be replacing them period.

I have Nitto's and Eibach so I have instilled to many "variables" into the cupping and feathering issue but I have neither of them to date 5500k miles and counting.

What is the easiest way to handle this situation? Any insight would be great, I'll post over there too! Thanks.
Get a copy of the TSB tire roaring sound while braking. If this is you're first time in you may get new tires.

Boomer, you were correct. I've got window grease streaks. Still waiting for the other shoe to drop! I love driving this car. It's so much more fun than my 98 'vette which I traded in for this.

I got a copy of the TSB, the service manager said he would be talking to Nissan on Wednesday and would bring up the new tire issue that I presented him with. I do plan on getting new wheels & tires, but I don't want abnormally worn tires on there for the time being.....especially since it is Nissans fault!
Oh and they managed to scratch the two front wheels when doing the alignment, so I got that going for me! Just one more thing to deal with!
Still very happy with the car, but will be much happier when all the little quirks are worked out and I can drive it somewhere other than to the dealership!

Default To Drop Thread Or Not?

I was just getting ready to drop this thread, but first... dispite the paint chipping, a half-*** stereo and greasy windows, I love this car! Great car, great fun, great looks, get compliments every single day. For the last couple of weeks I have turned the VDC off -- man what a difference!

350Z performance DB 3800 miles built 03/03

- Radio unit LCD display problem when hot.
dealer installed new HU
- steering to right
working with dealer to verify the problem
- rear hatch door cover not sealed completely
dealer ordered new cover and clips. waiting for parts to arrive
- rear rattle noise
was not able to isolate the noise.
it sounds like metalic noise from inside when driving.
- front paint chipping
contacted NCA and opened up file case, waiting for paint inspection
- cluch noise when neutral
mechanic compared with other 350Z, same noise, he concluded as normal, no fix.

I have a Enthusiast with 1600 miles on it. Just had it at the dealer for grease streaks on both windows and pulling to the right. They had if for a couple of hours and fixed the grease streaks with the new felt kit as outlined in the TSB. As for the pulling to the right they replaced the compression rod and did an alignment as outlined in the TSB. So far so good after two days. No streaks and car is driving perfectly straight.

Angry Still dealing with problems

I am still dealing with the window grease and the tire feathering issue.

I now have 12,000 miles on my car and had the TSB:NTB03006 for the tires done 3,000 miles ago and received new tires. I am now seeing signs again that the feathering issue is not solved. In fact, it maybe worse. It looks like now the feathering is both on the inside and the outside tread blocks. (before the TSB:NTB03006 was applied to my car the feathering/cupping was only showing on the inside tread blocks)

I have a list of 31 other 350Z owners that are dealing with this issue and have added their names to a petition asking Nissan to deal with this problem.

If you would like to be added to my email updates & the petition write me at

If you take the car in 3 times for a fix and they can't fix it they have to give you a new car or take the old one back. In California it's called the Lemon Law.

Especially if it's a safety issue (tires.)

Involve Nissan Consumer Affairs.

I can only hope that I could get a new Z. I wish it were that easy. However, from my understanding of the way the "Lemon Law" works, it is very difficult to invoke without a major legal Battle. There have been many that have signed the petition and are at the point of going in that route, but I am not there yet. I am willing to be patient if they keep giving me new tires for free. But I would really like Nissan to just fix the problem. Burning tires every 8,000 miles is unacceptable.

window grease, tranny problems, and just recently the driver side window comes back down halfway after using the auto-up feature. also, when the window is up and i use the remote to lock the car, the window goes halfway down again. so now i get to lock the car before i get out and not use the remote lock, woo.

VIN: 7549
Miles: ~5400

-o- Feathering problem. Have had the TSB applied but have not pressed for new tires yet. I fully expect the noise to grow louder again and am biding my time hoping that there will be an official fix [that actually works] within the next few thousand miles.

-o- I really hate the drive train whine, but dealer says it is normal and __The_Run__ DVD sounds pretty annoying too. During break in, had infrequent clutch-depression clanking and first gear grinding , but this problem seems to be long gone. I've heard the "whine" referred to in this forum as "cool supercharger like". Is it really normal, and I've just never had a real sports car?

-o- Window grease streaking. The thought of potential rattles from disassembling the doors for the TSB bothers me more than the grease. Am I wrong?

-o- Bose sucks, but isn't faulty I think. There is a slight buzz in the driver's tweeter, but I don't notice it every day.

-o- Is it just me or does anyone else prefer the lowest ON setting to the Touring's automatic climate control? (except when it fogs over in the Winter)

-o- Various intermittent rattles that come and go: couple in the dash; noticed a headliner buzz most recently; hope I never wreck trying to get the passenger side seatbelt back in its clip after every #@$%! time someone rides with me. I plan to attack the rattles eventually, but haven't worried about it yet.

-o- Bouncy interstate ride, but don't spend much time on the highway (would rather exercise the gearbox ;-)

-o- No paint flecking problems. Get this: I even had a front quarter panel replaced. A 17 yr old male side swiped me! The brakes stopped it on a dime but for some reason I just couldn't believe that the guy was actually going to cross that many lanes to clip me so I was [just barely] too late. ... The dealership matched the paint PERFECTLY!!! Believe me, I looked hard for defects: one 3/16" hair, rubber gasket between fender and headlight is badly crimped, sloppy but fixable job on one screw attaching inner fender well. I've had lots of body work done over the years of city driving, and this is the only time that I can't detect a repaint. Is Silverstone really that different, or did I just get extremely lucky?

-o- Have really grown to love the exhaust notes. I've never before driven so much with the windows down. I *almost* wish there were more on the road so I could get a better idea of just how "ricey" they sound from outside the car.

SUMMARY
=======
Cons:
Tire noise and unsettling feeling about a problem that Nissan
doesn't seem to have a handle on
Noisy, whine at all times in transmission/drive-train
Pros:
One kick-*** sports car for the cost of an over-priced SUV or
mini-van (paid list for a Touring way back in November)

Default paint nicks

nicks in the paint- go to an auto paint store or Eastwood's (online). Get some of the tiny fuzz ball sticks- nylon fuzz on a toothpick, basically. Also get some 1200 grit and 2000 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper when you get the fuzz *****.

Then get the touch up paint, and use the fuzz ball to put a teeny amount of paint on the nick. Let it set for a couple minutes, and look for settling as the solvent dries. Then trim a fuzz ball carefully, and dot the paint again in the center of the repair. Then wait for several days- maybe a week if the car is not in the sun much.

Then- this must be done CAREFULLY- take a small strip of 1200 and a popsicle stick, some liquid soap and a spray bottle of water. Put the 1200 grit sand paper on the edge of the popsicle stick, add soap on the repair spot, spray a little water, and LIGHTLY rub the paper over the dimple, spray off with water and wipe with a cotton cloth- NOT paper.towels Look at the spot with a trouble light so you can see the shadow of any small defect. Do not work on a large area- be patient. When it looks flat at the spot then use the 2000 grit in the same manner, but even more gently.

You should not have any paint damage more than about 2 mm if you are careful. Then, get some Dupont compound and with a soft cloth lightly buff the area starting at the center and moving out- again be patient and slow. Rubbing hard can/will soften the paint and make a mess. When the shine begins to come back- stop! Then get some 3M Glaze (about 16-20 bucks per quart), a soft cloth and polish the area around the damaged spot- this should make a nearly invisible repair, unless the paint match is poor. Wipe off any of the white powder that forms after the glaze is dry. You can use the glaze on the whole car, BTW.

Good Luck.

Angry NNA is sending a Tech to look at my car

Now with 1400 miles on my car, NNA is finally sending a Tech from Nissan to come look at my car. I have had the TSB applied. And have been given new tires 4,ooo miles ago and now the cupping has returned!

I have taken my car in 4 times now for the cupping problem and still no resolution. It is frustrating and I am afraid that I will have to pursue the "Lemon Law" or "Song-Beverly Warranty Act".

Interesting,

Anyone here using Ebiachs or Jics or Tiens or any other springs and have feathering or cupping? This could be a thread of it's own but I just hit 8k miles that is 5k miles on my tires w/o cupping. I can't be the solid source though because I have changed rims 3 times in 8k miles (costly way to get it right.)

Default Tranny Problem

Well I just hit 10000miles and my 3rd gear in my trans is shot and I was told that I needed a new one but Nissan was not going to cover it...Heres my story.

I took it to Nissan in Jersey City NJ and asked them to check it out. After waiting about 2 1/2 hours I looked in the garage area and noticed the tech and the manager looking under my hood.I did not now my transmission was under my hood?So I seen the rat ba&*@rd *** kissing tech guy pointing under my hood and pointing to the stickers on my side window. so I go over and ask if there is a problem . The manager tells me that I need a trans but "he" wouldnt authorize the warranty work because my vehicle had been "modified" and that Voids my warranty. I procceded to explain to him that he was not authorized to "void" my warranty and that a muffler and an air cleaner/intake have nothing to do with the trasmission. He stuck to his story that the car was "modified" and he would not jeopordize the dealership in any way by "honoring" my warranty.
So I pointed out the fact that my windows were tinted which was a "modification" and asked if that voided my warranty..he said no and when i asked why he replied that it had nothing to do with my transmission..So i replied neither does a muffler...After arguing with him for about 20 minutes and almost kicking his *** on several occasions he called nissan who authorized the repair..
So all he did was **** me off and lose a customer who wont go there for any more service and give them the repair work...this dude acted like he was paying for my repair out of his own pocket, when in actuality Nissan does not care if he saves them money by not repairing their "flagship" sports car under warranty. Nissan would be more pissed off at him for pissing off a customer who will post any and all negative feedback on this and other message boards. He made a big deal out of a muffler and intake!!! what a dick!!!
I really think i will jump ship and trade the "Z" in for a Z06...
