Default whirring noise from engine [?]

i didn't post this in the tech area because i read a few posts there and people were getting flamed for posting certain types of questions in a DIY section.....even though there's a separate DIY area......yeah i don't know. also, more people look here, i think.

yes, i searched.

i've got an 06 a/t coupe and in the past few weeks i've noticed that once in a while i hear a very particular whirring noise when i've got my foot on the gas mainly between 2750 and 3250 rpm. once i let my foot off, it stops, and when i accelerate again, it starts again. the sound's gone by 3500 rpm's. it's been happening more and more lately. it's mainly between those rpm's but it happens to a lesser degree at a lower rpm sometimes, too, when i'm slowing down [w/o actually braking]..... has anyone experienced this?
i'm not too sure it's the engine....honestly i wouldnt know wtf it's from and i rarely have anyone in the car with me to hear it too... but i KNOW it's not in my head.

help?

Do you have an aftermarket headunit ?, or amps it could be altenator noise.

could just be the intake air hitting its natural frequency at that rpm. My old stealth had a resonator bottle attached to the intake that would minimize noise at certain RPMs. When I removed it, I would get a similar whiring noise in a mid RPM range.

I also get a "throaty" sound between 4500-5500 rpms which I'm pretty sure is due to the frequency of the air at that range.
