You know what man I heard something yesterday too but the wierd thing is I just had all the pulley's and belts replaced. I am thinking it is just the cold weather but man my car has been acting wierd too. I told someone earlier when I left for work this morning everything felt soooooooo wrong with my car I actually got out to see if I had a flat.

When belts are cold they can make noise. Does it go away after you've been driving for a while?

Could be your tranny. My car (03) makes a high pitched whinning noise when the temp drops below 40 for a couple of minutes until the car warms up.

There have been several threads about "whinning transmissions when cold". Someone I think actually traced it down to the bearing on the input shaft.

I have the same problem, its in the 20 and 30's here and every time when I start the car up I hear the squeal. I just replaced the belts about 4 months ago, do you guys think they just need to be tighten. I replace them myself, factory Nissan belts.

My friend JUST fixed a problem like this, except his belt noise didn't go away. It was always there as long as the engine was on. It just needed lubrication, dealer did it. It was pretty loud too, I remember he was in the next lane over and I could hear it.

I'm with ya'-- However, mine is not belt related. It sounds line a tranny whine.. but it mainly makes noise when I'm turning RIGHT only... 37k on my '03-- I think I should bring it to the dealer.

+2, you could possibly over tighten the belts if you get too stubborn about getting rid of the noise in cold weather.

I don’t think that is something you should ignore if in fact the sound is a squealing noise (vs. a whining noise). A squealing noise is probably a belt, and that could be a pulley that isn’t rotating freely. It could be a bad bearing or a defective component (i.e., air conditioning pump or something else the belt is turning).

I would check this out. If a belt is slipping, it will certainly and eventually wear out, and break.
