Are you sure its rust? There have been posts about weird small dots on the roofs of our cars which has been pointed out to as rail dust or railtrack dust or something like that. I am not a 100% sure. If it is actual rust, then you should take it to a professional detailer because you don't want that to spread.

It most likely is rust. I had one little spot like this. It originated from a rock chip that went all the way through to the metal. Just remove all the rust and put a tiny dab of touch up on it(if it's even big enough) or a little dot of clear to block moisture. Also keep it covered with wax or polish.

There's a product called Naval Jelly that you can put over the rust spot, let it sit for a few hours then wipe it off. It should take all the rust with it. After that, depending on how big the spots are, you can apply a small amount of touch up paint to the area or just use a bit of clear coat. The purpose of this is to protect the area from getting wet and rusting again. After a few days apply a good coat of wax or polish over the area to protect if further.

I am going to second the suggestion with an added step. After removing the rust, apply an undercoat of Rustoleum. You can buy it in a small bottle at Home Depot. Its in the appliance department. I use it on my car.

Well, I also have two small rock chips on the roof just above the windshield.

Can someone give a like to the Naval Jelly and touch up kit. I need to get this taken care of before it gets out of hand! I wonder if this is a good spot to place some clear bra material...

I can confirm the micro rust spots... I drive my Z year round here in Chicago (salt city). Now and then I will get a cluster of rust specs that appear to be on the top surface (clear coat), bizarre!! I can remove them with heavy rubbing or my fingernail. Its really weird… but I can see them and feel them after I clean the car and run my hand across the finish. They only appear on the roof and rear lid (steel). I can't explain it, but now I don't feel alone...LOL!

I have the 3M clearbra material covering half my roof, from the windshield edge rearward. I've had it for 2yrs now, I forget its up there. I think it helps

Reviving a very old thread, and all the pictures are now 404'ing, but this is happening to me too. I just found some tiny rust spots on the roof of my 350Z (2006). I'd like to take care of it. I'm going to bring it to someone else to do. Any help is appreciated and I'll forward the advice given above.
