Default Header/Exhaust Leak Sound?

I recently installed topspeed headers in my 2003 Z. I more recently got new tires for my car. Now I hear all kinds of sounds I couldn't hear before because of the tire roar was so loud, so my worries could be paranoia or real concern.

I hear a ticking sound, matching the revs of the engine. It is not especially loud, but IF I depress the cluth and rev the engine I can hear it. So that removes any chance of transmission noise. I hear it most when I'm driving near a concrete wall etc... I've had the car up on jacks and ensured all my bolts are torque town tight. Also I don't hear any "suck back" or poping when I rev the engine and release the gas which might indicate a leak.

Can anyone comment on how the headers sound on thier car, is this because I have cheap headers, or cracked headers etc... My next step is going to be replacing gaskets.

Any help with troubleshooting the leak, without hacing to replace and/or reinstallt he headers?

Thank you for the comments.

Who installed your new tires? If it wasn't you then I would double check to make sure all the lug nuts are tight and nothing behind the wheel is touching a wheel and making your "ticking" noise. I just don't see how your header gaskets could be the cause of your "ticking" noise, especially matched to engine speed. Do you hear the noise at idle or while the car is stationary but the engine is being reved?

it could simply be injector noise. I used to get it sometimes after hard driving. I could hear it at idle and it will match your revs.

just a thought.

Headers will make unusual exhaust noises. My exhaust chirps like a bird when letting off the throttle. Go figure.

^I thought that was from my lightweight flywheel. I get a chirp when shifting sometimes... my girlfriend said it sounds like the car is farting... but it's more high pitched.

Why do so many people create threads and never check up on them? PAZee, we can't help if you don't give us any feedback.

Eh at idle or even when revving I can hear a small, air-like, loping sound. Even with the clutch pressed in so it's not the usual clutch noises.

Sorry for the slow feedback. I don't believe it's the tires. My point earlier was that it might have been there prior, but my tire roar made it impossible to hear before.

It makes the noise at idle although I have to say it is a subtle sound. It is loudest around 4k RPMs, or when I upshift to early, I would say WOT or near WOT is definately louder with the "ticking sound". It is hard to hear unless it is bouncing off a nearbywall, or embankment. I don't hear a churping sound, other than a bit of my intake "whistle".

Has anyone ever had an exhaust leak and can you provide feedback on how it sounded? Any ideas on how to cehck for leaks/cracks in my headers? thanks!

Exhaust leaks sound like a high pitch "ping" sound. Like someone is smacking a wrench into a metal pipe. How loud it is will depend on how big of leak you have. The best way to check for/track down exhaust leaks is with a stethoscope. Do a google search and I am sure you will come up with a how to for checking for exhaust leaks. I just went through this on my mazda.

wow I cant believe I found a post 10 years old with exactly what seems to describe the noise I am having Would you describe your noise like the noise I am having in my video link here:

Have you manage to fix it. I think it must be something with the headers. I have been using motordyne tdx exhaust and motordyne art pipes (instead of cats) for quite some time now. This noise has been gradually increasing over time. So I think the problem is coming from the OEM factory headers which is the only thing that I still haven't replaced.

Some feedback would be greatly appreciated peace out
