Default Battery Tender

After recently reading a thread about mileage on 03's . . it seems quite a few of us keep our Z's sleeping in the garage for extended periods of time. Has anyone used the "Battery Tender" to maintain their batteries with their Z? Or, has anyone had any issue with batteries dying after the car has been sitting for a few weeks? I was reading the Vette forum and many there recommend the battery tender to keep the battery fresh. Wondering if any Z owners have used it, had any issues, etc?

Thanks
Jaret

I have a Battery Tender and I think it does a wonderful job keeping the battery fully charged. I am one of the people who have an '03 with 18K miles. My Z is stored for long periods of time. I still have the original battery.

I have a 03 Z with 36xxx miles original battery. Sits in the garage most of the time sometimes for 3 weeks. But I make sure I drive it for couple hrs once a month.

I've used Battery Tenders on every motorcycle I've ever owned, and have gotten astounding battery life. Unlike trickle chargers, the BT cannot "overcook" your battery; it provides a 1.25amp charge if the battery voltage is a bit low, then switches over to a 10 milliamp "maintenance" mode. You can leave it on indefinetly without fear of damage to your battery, and I highly recommend it for any vehicle (motorcycle, RV, Z in winter) that will sit for any length of time.

I use the Battery Minder on my Torino. The sucker had a problem with it draining the battery constantly and so couldn't go more than 2-3 days without being driven or else it would kill the battery. After some time with the Battery Minder on it all is well, and I don't have to sit there and scowl at my car on those days when I want to drive and the thing won't turn over.

I am getting a Battery Tender this winter; my local Batteries Plus store carries the complete line. Last winter (my first with the Z), Z was stored for 4 months without BT and I regretted not buying it when my brand new battery (8k miles on the car) was dead at the end of the storage period even though I gad started the car every 2 weeks for about 10 minutes each time and had the -ve cable disconnected in-between. I had sworn never to store it that way ever again.

I use the tender with my car cover on. I put the tender on a piece of hardwood on my passenger side floor so it does not sit on the fabric floor mat just in case it may overheat and I use a 15A rated heavy guage extention cord with the window down.
