Default cluth not disengaging?

my car is having the following symptom..

1. push the clutch pedal all the way in
2. put into gear immediately
- I get 'blocked' feel from the shifter and the car tries to move slightly as the shifter goes into gear. in 3rd gear it grinds horribly, the synchro probably is worn more than the others.

1. push the clutch pedal all the way in
2. wait 5 seconds
3. put into gear
- no blockage, no hesitation, smooth and nice.

now i am thinking that it is my clutch not disengaging properly when the pedals all the way in. funny thing is though, once the gear is in, the car wont move at all. the frction point where the clutch 'bites' happens when the cluch pedal is about 1/2 released.

it seems like it takes a few seconds for the clutch to disengage after the pedal is pressed all the way in, as the gears work fine if I press the cluch pedal and wait for 5 seconds before shifting, which makes it pretty damn useless at the track.

what could cause this problem? do I need a new set of clutch?

Every change the hydralic fluid in the clutch line? Maybe you have some air in the line. Get some super DOT 4 fluid and flush out that old stuff, see if that helps.

we need more info like miles, what kind of clutch, last service done and how this problem came to be. Did it get worst slowly or did it just happen one day.

I wasn't experiencing any mushy clutch issues, but I did have the transmission issue with the syncro grinding into third gear. I just took my recently bought used 2003 350Z Track to the dealership, they confirmed the issue, and are going to replace the transmission free of charge. It was covered under the powertrain warranty which expires on the 20th of this month!

Take your Z to any Nissan dealership, see if it is covered under manufacture warranty still. If so, drop it off and let them inspect it, you might end up with a free transmission.

I have my '05 in the shop right now to get the transmission replaced. I was getting a grind going into 5th gear and the take-up point for the clutch would move closer to the floor as the car warmed up. They are replacing the transmission under warranty but the clutch and flywheel need to be replaced too. Apparently the flywheel is made of metal more expensive than gold. The flywheel alone was $1150 and apparently is a single use item that cannot be resurfaced.

Guys, I'm reviving this thread like Frankenstein did to the monster....Anyway, did anyone ever diagnose and fix this issue other than just change the transmission?

My 2003 350Z seems to have this problem: My clutch disengages like a second or two after I push the pedal in. Initially i thought it was me just getting used to the gear set up but I've come to realize it isn't me. I can't power shift or shift too fast especially when in high RPM range. I have to press the pedal and then wait a second before I can shift into a different gear or risk looking like a total noob and grind gears.

I'm thinking I'm going to try and bleed the clutch master and slave cylinder this weekend. Read up on it, figured I'd try it. But any other ideas, suggestions, point me in the right direction, or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Rob

When I push the clutch pedal in to start the starter does not turn over. When you keep pushing the pedal in and out the starter finally turns over, and starts. How do I fix this?

Check the switch near the clutch pedal pivot. It's either going bad, or needs its position adjusted. Fairly simple fix, either way.

Rob, I have a 2003 and had the problem you describe. The fix was replacing the transmission. I realize that is not what you want to hear. --Spike
