Hey guys,

taking my z to get it looked at 2morro and wanted to know if n e one here has had a similar issue or knows whats going on. When im at a light i hear a slight knocking sound coming from the engine....also, the car feels like its gonna stall, but it never does. Does anyone know what the problem could be??

I'm not real sure but are you using Premium unleaded? I know if you dont use atleast 91 octane the engine will knock.

my 05 Z does the exact same thing. 1st off its not knock. if it was knock you would know, car runs like crap, its REALLY LOUD and the ECU would pull mad timing. ive brought mine to nissan and the only thing they could tell me was to use a nissan oil filter. if you dont have a nissan filter on there, make sure you use a filter that has an anti drain back valve like the K&N filter does. prevents oil from draining from the top of the motor back into the pan after the engine stops to prevent dry starts.

i went in about this problem over 5 months ago and 5000k miles ago. still makes the noise to this day. when i start the car up i dont hear it. seems like once the oil gets hot though i hear it. not any worse or better since the first time i heard it. tech told me after a few oil changes and going back to the stock filter the noise should go away. Hasnt gone away for me yet but i have only changed the oil twice since the noise started.

as far as i can tell from reading similar threads, its a common issue. IDK what it is, but it doesnt seem to rob power, im not getting metal in the oil, no smoke, so i assumed its just a low idle.

well let me know what they say. btw just wondering what oil filter you have and if you have any mods on your car.
also does the noise go away if for instance you were in neutral with the clutch pushed in or out?

it's the clutch. There's a damaged spring in their causing the noise. Also, they are replacing the whole clutch mechanism. The flywheel is fine. All in all im basically just getting a new clutch. Nothing major....j1234, u should get ur clutch checked out i guess

Ahh thank you. one other thing. could you hear the noise regardless of the clutch position, ie clutch pushed in or out?
