Default [Help] what is your normal RPM when it's at idle

Hi guys, I'm trying figure out if my car condition is at normal or not.

i tried search and i did not get good answer.

Today, i just noticed my car was making weird noises and my rpm was at around 400~500 rpm.

is this normal when car is warmed up? I have 2008 base model with 16,000 miles.

what is the normal rpm range when engine is warmed up?

thanks

It would help with a better description of what kind of noise. 350Zs have loud trannies and people are known to think this is a problem but usually not. Give us a better description of the noise and normal RPM range is probably between 500-700 ill check tommorow

Sorry about that. like I described in earlier post, it makes ticking and small clunking noises sounds like engine is about to stall.

and my rpm range is little lower than half between 1K Rpm and 0. So i'm assuming it is about 400~500 rpm

If the noise is coming from the engine directly and your car is under warranty take it to the dealer. A couple of my friends had noise that sounded similair and took to dealer. Ended up having a problem with valve timing and tapping. They replaced the motor for them. If its more from under the car and sounds like marbles or cement mixer its just the good old noisy tranny lol

That's too slow. 700 to 750 is what I run and it's clean. That's pretty much about where most of the cars that I've owned run. 500 you're pretty close to stall speed.

So basically, my 08 350z (16,000 mile)was acting funny yesterday nite with rpm was at low range and ticking noise when it was in neutral and engine was at idle.

So, I took it to dealer this morning, of course, I couldn't duplicate the noise again.

but they did reset the idle and self learn(I don't know what this is). Since it was just adjustment, not a mechanical failure, I ended up paying $120. :'(

My tachometer needle seats between 3rd and 4th mark between 0-1K rpm at when engine is at idle(*shown below). I'm assuming its at 600rpm~650rpm.

|__|__|_*_|__|
0 250 500 750 1K

Please correct me if I'm wrong and if this is normal.

I looked it up once and there is a cold idle, warn idle and another idle with air conditioning ON. See if you can get a free service manual online. Very helpful.

Warm idle is 650 RPM plus minus 50.
