Default Question about movement to the gauge needles

on my previous car a BMW, the needle when i changed gears was still and dropped through the rpms just fine, but i find in my 350z when i change gears the needle swings a bit, and when i power shift, or down shift the needle swings like krazy, is this normal? should i have the dealer check it out?

The RPM needle moves quickly but should not be erratic. It should not stick, pause or hesitate.

That's one crazy needle.

Define "power shifting."

maybe theres another word for it, like for example when your racing, and your changing gears as quick as possible, and slamming the **** to the next gear, keeping the momentum of the power band going, its not something i would recommend doing, i just did it and it made the rpm needle go krazy, same as when i shift quick or down shift to high rpms

This is a common "problem" that some people bring up, and it is normal, not unless you have a CEL then your car is fine.

If you downshift the RPM might jump to 6,000 or 7,000 RPM sure.

Oh I thought you said downshifting. Between shifts the RPM might jump to 6 or 7,000 RPM. No big deal.

thats not what im talking about, i mean the actual needle shakes so much when i change gears, it makes it hard to know what my rpms r at lol, its really irritating, i think imma have the dealer check it out this weekend, see what they say about it.

Sounds like a clutch problem. Maybe from all that power-shifting. Let us know.

it has nothing to do with the clutch, i know the clutch is fine, the car doesnt jerk or anything of the sort, its the actual rpm needle thats bothering me, not a huge problem, but still, i want things to be on point
