Terrible Screetching Noise from the Engine.. Embarrasing!
it could just be worn out bearings in one of the idler pulleys. Thats the exact sound my old jetta used to have. bought a new pulley at autozone for 20 bucks, problem solved.
you could also use a stethoscope and carefully stick it down in there while the car is running to pin point the locations. worked for me. very accurate.

only happens on the COLDEST days going down the street...once warmed up it's gone for the rest of the day...
summer....no problems.
wonder how much these bearing actually cost...i know there are 2 of them...I'm sure they cost more than 20 bucks for a jetta
