Default What part is this hanging under my Z?

What is the name of this plastic piece that I have yellow arrows pointing at? I ran over something I couldn't avoid and now one side of this piece is dragging under my car and I need to know what it is so I can order another one. Part number or where best to order will be greatly appreciated.

Plastic undertray it looks like..........i hate that picture...

see post 11 and 12

but to help, i know you can buy it from courtesy parts.com - from what i remember its like 130 bucks or something like that...

its held on really cheesy, if you only have a section falling i would look at doing a simple repair versus replacing it....you can more than likely use the same bolts with really big "fender washers" (sold at home depot) since more than likely it pulled the plastic hole locations and ripped them open...etc..

Can take a pic of the damaged area???

I don't think it is the undertray because that piece is a lot bigger and closer to the front bumper. I read in the post where I took this picture from that it was taken with the undertray removed (that's why you can see the oil filter and pan.)

The piece that is hanging is shaped more like a butterfly and looks to cover access to the transmission and to a lesser extent, CV joints and control arms.

I will try to get her up on jackstands this weekend so I can take actual pictures and inspect any further damage that may have been caused. My car is lowered so I can't even fit my head under there to see if the undertray is still in place either.

Not positive but looks like it's called the Lower dash crossmember. See attached.

My floor jack isn't working for some reason or another (not raising at all) so I had to drive the front of the car onto the driveway and take some real crappy pics.

The pic above is from the opposite side but you can see the good half of the butterfly below the CV joints.

This one shows its definitely not the undertray because it remains intact at the top of the photo and is a piece behind it that covers the cross member.

Here is a pic of where it is broken which looks like it snapped where it is bolted on as the bolt remains with the plastic ripped off.

Hard to tell from the angle of the pics, but is it part of your wheel well liner? You can get a new one from nismoparts.com for like $40.

CLICK on this link and go to post 11..........its a bigger image and easier to see!

It's a 2nd plastic undertray...........there is the main plastic undertray that everyone has to remove inorder to do an oil change, then there is that one! the one that goes over the black ugly bracing you took a pic of.........

actually, the yellow arrow you show on your first post points right at the black plastic 2nd undertray.

I can't find anywhere that sells a "2nd undertray." I am not sure if that is what Nissan refers to it as because my local Nissan dealer can get me the first undertray, and knew what that was, but don't have any part listed as a second undertray. I couldn't find anything like that at courtesyparts either so please prove me wrong and provide me a link. Could it be the "lower dash crossmember" that 350Zenophile mentioned?

ya, i dont know what its technical name is, but i physically looked under my car.......its a plastic tray, separate from the front one...

honestly, for something like that i would run to your local junk yard and pull one from a wrecked Z.......of course to get it, the junk yard my have to fork lift the Z up for you......unless they already have it sitting on old steel rims already elevated.........

most junkyards have a house minimum.......about 25 bucks usually.....i would grab the plastic tray, clips and extra clips and take cash, small bills 5's and 10's and they will probably give it to you for less paying cash with no receipt of course - lunch money to them..........

Did you find a place to buy this 2nd 'butterfly' undertray from? Mine got destroyed over the weekend.

I went over a block of wood - cleared the 1st, hit the 2nd undertray and chipped my cats (the lip where the gasket meets). I know it was wood because a hunk of it got stuck in my exhaust v-clamp. I have a tiny exhaust leak at the driver side cat (moisture drips at warm-up). Aside from that..looks like I am in the clear for any other damage.. I guess it's possible it damaged the internals of the cats - I can't tell at this point.

The tray was hanging down - and I had no way to fix it on the road.. i just dragged it home. I guess It protected 'something'.. maybe.. Where can I get a new one? I may contact insurance to see if they'll replace my cats.

EDIT - I think I found it by the number on the part.

Great find on the part number thekinn! Let me know if you get confirmation that this is the right part. $53.38 isn't bad at all.

As for your cats, I wouldn't make any insurance claims on something that can be fixed for less than $2000. You will likely spend more than that in increased insurance rates over the next five years. And if you try to get quotes for new insurance in the next five years, all insurance companies will see the claim and jack your rates up accordingly.

I ordered the part through a local dealer to save a couple dollars on shipping. It should be in early next week - I'll let you know.

Thanks for the suggestion on the cats.. I've been looking for an excuse to get some high-flow replacements.

I was bored one evening and had some extra stuff and I was meaning to put this back under my 2004 350Z after having it steam cleaned.
