Default gas smell after i fill up

everytime i fill up my car up with gas and then park it at home their is a strong gas smell in my garage and also in the cabin of the car. i checked for leaks and cant find any. after i drive the car for a little bit and get the gas down to about 7/8 of a tank or so the gas smell goes away. you guys have any idea what it could be?

There was a fuel filler TSB (or recall - I forget) to address this. Bring it by your dealership. I think it was a recall.

Yes, you don't specify what year your Z is, but I believe the recall is for some 03 and/or 04 models. The filler hose develops cracks so the gas will leak out.

thanks for all the help guys. i'm pretty sure the problem that i have is from that filler hose. the question that i have now is what kind of stuff can the dealership mess up by doing this repair? my car is twin turboed and i have a return fuel line. i just need know what they could mess up so i can address it before i bring the car in. thanks

I don't have this problem but i would like to resolve the problem before one occurs. On a recall can you call anytime you would like to get this done no matter how long the tsb has been posted.

The worse I've seen is a car dropped off the lift

To replace the filler hose, the tank has to be removed. To do that, they have to remove the rear end, i.e. wheels, axles, diff, exhaust, etc. If I was you I'd visit the dealer and have a sit-down with the service manager beforehand.

Does this issue also cause a small amount of fuel (barely) to come out from the pump o-ring seal?

If I recall correctly, it wasn't a TSB for the earlier models, it was a recall, If the car had ever been to a dealer they would have ensured the owner came back with less than an eighth of a tank to get the filler fixed. It didn't matter if the car was out of warranty.

Also, has anyone ever had to do the TSB for it more than once as a recurring problem?
