Default need help openin my hatch

i know this may sound weird but heres the story. so my backpack is in my hatch and when i closed the hatch somehow part of the strap got stuck where the latch is and now i can't get it open. i tried opening it and i could hear it unlocking but the hatch wont come up. then i finally gave up and attempted to pull my backpack out when i noticed that the strap was stuck there. so i cut one of the straps off because i gotta get this work done. so now only a small piece of the strap is stuck. let me know what i can do thanks.

Did you try openning it from inside of the hatch?. I would try that and if it opens, you can then get whatever is stuck unstuck.

I don't know if all of them have it, but my 04 has a pull cable under the rear strut bar. Pull on that while you have someone pull up on the hatch lid.

^^ I believe all Z’s have this. It’s actually a safety feature that allows escaping through the rear hatch from the inside of the car.

It’s a directly connect wire, so pulling hard enough will either force the latch open, or bend something or break the wire. It’s certainly worth a try here since Andy’s hatch is stuck shut.

I wouldn’t pull so hard to break the wire or bend something. If it comes to that, the best solution is removing the covering panels from the inside of the car. That won’t be fun since the access is pretty tight.

Push down on the hatch and push the button.

Pushing down on the hatch will help to relieve the pressure on the lock.

i tried pushing down on it a bunch of times already. but it finally opened up. thanks guys for all the help.

how i got it opened. I went over a speed bump after going to a best buy then all of a sudden i see the hatch light turn on so i pulled over and pushed the botton and like magic it opened. ahahah SO FOR ALL THOSE OUT THERE WHO RUNS INTO THIS CRAAAAZY SITUATION GO OVER A SPEED BUMP HARD ENOUGH AND IT JUST MIGHT WORK FOR YOU!

^^ I think PDX Racer had the right answer. Pushing the hatch down ("i tried pushing down on it a bunch of times already.") obviously worked the strap fragment loose enough so a firm upward bump cause the mechanism to release ("I went over a speed bump after going to a best buy then all of a sudden i see the hatch light turn on so i pulled over and pushed the botton and like magic it opened.").

Glad it's fixed. Crawling into the rear of the hatch and removing the panels to gain access to the release mechanism would have been an unpleasant task.
