Default Noise at Start up :(

Ok this is pretty embarrassing But whenever I start my Z and the engine is cold (been sitting for more than 30 minutes) it has this terrible rocking clanking noise (I have a recording of it but don't know how to put it on lol ) So I guess if I can figure out how to put the recording of the sound on here that might be the best of help....and then we can go from there...

p.s. Hope this in the correct place?? I couldn't really find a specific place for my problem....

Oh my gosh it sounds so terrible...I'm tempted to not even put it on here lol......and when I was trying to get the noise it started with a squeal!! Ahhh So just skip the middle part maybe it's to terrible HELP!

easiest way, most straightforward way: take a digital camera (w/video recording capabilities, of course), record the sound, create a youtube or photobucket account, upload the file to the chosen hosting site, post link to the video here.

How's your oil level? The clacking at startup sounds like it had to build up oil pressure before the noise went away. The squeal is one of your drive belts.

Oh I used to have the squealing but put soap on it....it worked and now it just did it today.....first time in a couple months. But the belts were just replaced when it started doing it and they were not too lose or too tight.

It has done it since I got the Z a few months ago.....and I had the oil changed and levels are good.

Try tightening it just a bit more. It may seem excessive but the belt is obviously still slipping. What brand of belts did you put on?

I had the same problem in my 02 wrx and replaced all the belts i could find, and it would go away for a couple days then come back. I finally got fed up with it and asked a buddy to look at it, we found out it was the A/C compressor. That fixed the problem.

Micro V's are made by Gates, decent stuff. I would definitely try tightening them up just a bit more and see what happens.

As for the startup noise, it sounds like a oil pressure issue (maybe tensioner/chain slack as well?). I know my Z makes a similar noise after it's been sitting for weeks or months (I don't drive it often) but if I drive it everyday it doesn't do it. I'm sure someone with more noise knowledge will chime in

Tighten up the belts a bit more for the squeal.

Btw: I'm surprised for someone who knew how to edit three clips into one, you didn't know how to upload or post a video.

Well I originally recorded it with my iPhone (first time using that to record) and that format was not recognized by anything so I used my camera to get the sounds there....and I am a pro at video making lol not trying to brag....

I concur with above posts and your belts, but regarding some of the other noise. Do you push the clutch in when you start the engine? If you don't, do.

Although this is not a 350z he is correct to not over look the A/C comp. and such. If this problem has not gone away after doing all the common stuff, you have more there then. I would have a tech inspect, you possibly have a bad part in the drive belt path.

P.S I had the exact samething happen with my wrx nastynate.

I have a momentary knock when I start up.
it has been that way for 30K.
Mine may be oil pressure to the tensioner.
I have my daughter using it now but it has not failed.
