HELP! Dealer screwed up my ECM :(
I took my car in for an oil change, got the front brakes done and the throttle bodies cleaned. (I have a 2007 350Z) My gut feeling was to not go ahead and do this but I opted to, long story short before I knew it, 2 then 3 then 4 hours pased and the service rep tells me my car is idling too high! and since the shop was going to close in an hour they'd put me in a rental (on their dime) just in case they can diagnose the problem. So I left this was on a saturday, Monday came along, and still couldn't get a olid answer, this went on until Thursday until he mentions that the ECM would need to be replaced. Damn I'm pissed didn't realized how much I love my car until now, man do I miss driving it. Well on this same day he tells me the ECM will be ordered on friday & that they would call me on Monday. We'll they didn't call, so I called conviniently enough my service rep was gone for the day so I sopke to another guy, he keeps me on the phone for a few minutes to check-up on my car and then tells me that the ECM is on back-order until 2nd week of July!
They are covering all the costs since its their screw-up but I'm still making monthly payment on the car & it doesn't seem right that I'm paying for a car and not using it. Anybody have the same thing happen to them, can someone advice on what precautionary measures I can take or should take, it would be greatly appreciated, thx in advance.

who knows, it not like something that ruins the resale value of the car. its just a plug and play device that will have no bearing on how your car performs or looks. yeah it sucks you are without your car for a few days. but once again schit happens and it was that bad to begin with. they are going to replace it for free like they should. i dont see what the big fuss is about.
As for the crying part, can't understand a comment like this coming from you, from the looks of your avatar your car looks pampered wonder what you would do if someone screwed up your car, and could get an answer for a week. I just feel skeptical about it now, what happens if they don't fix it right? This thread was to ask for suggestions of those with similar scenarios. YES i do love my car, I've worked very hard to get it & its my daily driver rain, sleet or snow. So those who can appreciate their connections to their cars friendly suggestions are welcome.
i have been without my car for a total of 1.5 years from being in shops getting upgrades. i never once bitched. schit happens deal with it. now if the dealer was trying to screw you on purpose, id ***** but they are taking care of it. relax. youll get your car back. its not the end of the world.

Anyone have a clue on what caused this problem? Their second attempt was replacing the throttle postion sensor, but that didn't work, my rep tells me he had 10 of his best goons on it and couldn't figure it out, so they opted to replace the ECM. I felt indecisive at first and remember when I got the air filters replaced the car was stalling and felt like it wanted to shut-off, but when I took it back they said the filters were properly secured and had no obstruction and the car ran fine after that. I think maybe the ECM learned its air & fuel ratio and corrected itself but I have no clue what went wrong.
Sucks that it happened, but at least they're not passing the buck and gave you a rental on their dime. It's not like you're making a car payment without transportation. Also, it's not scheduled to be down for months on end.

Can someone shed some light on the sensitivity of having two throttle bodies, cleaning properly and the pitfalls if they are not, I'm just trying to understand how this all happened. Yes I'm lucky thy're paying for everything, but perhaps someone can shed some light on this issues for other people so they know what to look out for. Some dealerships might not admit to a mistake and provide no rental to others...
Sounds like they have not got a clue.
When you clean the TB's the idle will come up because they are now clean and the ECM has learned the proper idle RPM as if they are dirty, Now more air is coming through and the ECM has not learned the new idle position at the TB's yet. You MUST do a idle relearn through Consult now.
Problem now is the idle is too high (too far out of spec) and the ECM cannot relearn the new idle.
Now what you have to do is fool the ECM.
Disconnect 1 injector at a time until the idle is low enough for the ECM to learn it again, Normally around 1,000 rpm or lower, then plugging one injector back in at a time and going through the same procedure with consult until you get your normal idle back. Sometimes it takes unhooking up to 4 injectors to get the idle low enough for the ECM to complete the idle relearn.
Your car does not need an ECM it just needs to have the Idle procedure done correctly.

thanks guys, I think Im going to start working on my car again and skip the service shop. Mostly it is due to time, but I guess I'm going to have to make time. Beats the hell out of waiting a month for my car.

I'm starting to think the nissan dealer mechanics are about as qualified as pepboys.
