Yes, unplugging the battery makes the CEL go off.. but your car still threw the code for a reason so you shouldn't simply ignore it.
In this case he just modified his air intake so im sure the car threw the code because of that change. My car threw a code when I put my intake on, I reset the ECU and the light has never come back on.
