Jeff, have you heard about a clutch that sort of grinds. I can't explain it, but the clutch feel is not smooth. It's creaky like an old door... any explaination for this? I took it to one dealer and he said it was fine... but I got jerked around by that dealer and needed to file a complaint.

Any help/answers would be apperciated....

HE IS WRONG!!!! Have him call the Nissan call center. You don't have a choice about the pedal. The claim will be rejected if the pedal is not used as it is what's called a service file part. Have your dealer call me if they don't want to do their job!!!

I found my receipt from July buried under my passenger seat. Looks like I have CD006, so I'm assuming this is the 3rd version? Or is it in fact the 6th version (just making a logical deduction from the part code).

Has anyone got 4th generation tranny & clutch pedal assembly installed? If so, how is it. Did it really fix the grind & knochy problem?

What is the dealer's criteria for replacing the transmissions? From what I've been reading it's grinding only, is this right ??

I have notchiness going into 2nd and sometimes 3rd, also an occasional "clunk" going into 2 & 3. I have not experienced any grinding so for and I have 4200 miles vin ending 40xx.

Actually, I never had the grinding at all. I merely asked them to look into all the funky noises that is associated with 5 gear groan, clunking going into 2nd or 3rd, and notchiness. I also asked them to look into the noise that the trannie makes when I press on the clutch swiftly and shifter out of 1st or 2nd.

They confirmed that some of the noises and shift feel didn't feel right, and were directed by tech line to replace the transmission. The new trannie feels a bit smoother, but the noise from clutch disengagement still sounds odd.

On another note, and in keeping Jeff in the loop about the clutch pedal assembly, I pressed the service writer further about why it didn't get replaced. Apparently, it was on order, but he was later directed by the tech line support not to replace it in my particular vehicle. He said that the tech line guy did not explain why, So I'm left with these potential scenarios:

1) The service writer is lying to me.
2) Nissan tech line support is lying to the service writer.
3) Both the service writer and tech line support don't know what's going on. That's a bad combination.
3) My vehicle already has the updated clutch pedal assembly. This is the preferred scenario, but the service writer could not verify it when I inquired.

John98r:
Yes, there is still some notchiness, but not as much as before. It seems to go away as the car warms up. The notchiness was omni-present in the former trannie.

As for using Jeff @ Performance, I would go to him if I wasn't in the Sacramento area. I'm using Nissan of Elk Grove, and they are a brand new facility. Service has been good so far, but they aren't as experienced. if I were to buy aftermarket products, I wouldn't buy them from Nissan of Elk Grove, I'd buy them from Jeff due to his involvement in our forums, even if I had to pay a little extra for shipping.

I just got the new tranny with new clutch pedal yesterday. Feels much better than the original, clutch takeup is much closer to the floor and the shifter is not as notchy as it was.

Default New Tranny for me too as of yesterday!

I recently visited the great Jeff from Performance and he helped arrange a tranny swap for me (second time) and I must say it's definitely better, but still some notchiness, mostly in the morning. It's not grinding though!!!

My question for owners of the new transmission and clutch pedal assembly is this, if you go all of the way over to the right, can you go into 5th or sixth? I used to go all of the way over and know I was lined up for 5th or 6th, now 5 and 6 are to the left of far right. If I go to the far right I cannot get into 5th or 6th at all. It's like hitting a brick wall. Again I can get into gear if I just move a little left from the far right side.

Is this related to a little adjustment of the bracket under the shift boot that controls the shifter limits?

Thanks,

Stu E.

If anyone in SoCal needs to bring their Z in for a tranny replacement, go to Jeff. His attitude and help was awesome and I'll refer to anyone to him for anything Z related!
Btw, what version did I get on my Z Jeff?

Jeff, I also had my tranny replaced at Perf.(threw in the fly wheel), but not the latest with the pedal. I was wondering if the pedal could be put in ?,I do feel the clutch has to be closer to the floor like an 1".Thanks!

If you had your trans replaced before 11/28, you probably have the previous version. Check your service invoice for part number 32010-CD008. That is the new part number. But... MOST people aren't having problems with the previous trans CD007 and CD006. I guess it's just hit or miss.
