Jeff, thanks for keeping us informed! Funny that my service writer was informed not to install the assembly even after they've ordered and shipped it!!!

As an engineer, I do feel some compassion for the poor guy that's trying to pump out new trannie designs under tremendous amount of time and budget constraints. He probably rushed out a new design/specification, under pressure from management, and Nissan immediately issues new part numbers. Then, and independent technical check is performed, and the check indicates no clutch assembly replacement is required. God, I hate being an engineer!!! There's not much gratification because all everyone remember are the failures...

hmm my tranny replacement was rejected.. can u tell me the criteria they are replacing the trannies by?

here are my symptoms:

notchy shift into second...in the higher rpm range i have to slam the shifter into second.

notchy fifth gear.. i sometimes have to deliberately push the shifter all the way to the right...gets stuck if i try shifting into fith at a diagonal /

a few times it has felt as if the clutch was not depressed when i would try shifting.. it would get stuck and grind in these two positions...

however this is not an everyday event..

please advise!

Default New clutch pedal

Just in case anyone hears something "bad" about the new clutch pedal, please post about it.

I have the new assembly. Athough it seems fine, I don't want to have to get another transmission down the line because this pedal is doing something wrong.

Thanks,

Stu E.

Sorry, Nissan leaves it to the dealers to decide..... Dealers need to find a balance between keeping the customer happy and Nissan profitable...... a very fine line. We lean far over to the customer side and that's the type of dealer you need to find in your area.

We are still replacing them almost daily around here. So far other than 2 customers, I've heard people say they work great. We also have not used the pedal assy per Nissan latest instructions. Of the 2 customers of mine, one has the updated pedal and the other does not. Go figure??

Jeff,

I have a post about "buzzing" in 2nd and 3rd gear at the top of repairs. I took my car in on Friday and the tech was able to duplicate the noise. Conclusion...throw out bearing or a new tranny. They need to call NNA and speak to the SM on Monday to see which one. This is the first time I have heard the throw out bearing mentioned other then early on and being loud when in neutral. Is this right? What should I be asking for on Monday? Is the -008 still the current part? I do not have grinding just a horrible high pitched buzz and notchiness.

Thanks,

Jim

Mind would "grind" no matter what between 2nd and 3rd. It's being replaced right now with the 008 trannie.

I'm not sure about the clutch pedal though, they didn't say anything about it.

Yes, the 008 is the latest. As far as the the other noises... this is the first I've heard of it. Sorry I'm not much more help. Still trying to get an answer about what parts are used to rebuild one of these tranny's. I think we'll just stick to putting in new ones...

Jeff,

I got the call today that they are ordering my transmission today. Funny thing is the tech asks me what type of clutch pedal I have. Is it steel or rubber, she asked? I can't make this stuff up I swear. I said the clutch pedal is steel with an aluminum isert on the face of the rubber pedal. LMAO.

Anyway, sounds like they are asking to replace the clutch, also. May be smoke and find out later it is just the tranny but....

What do you think?

If they want to throw in a pedal.... take it! What they don't understand is Nissan will reject the claim when they go to process it. Not really your problem. I like the new pedal myself. Jason got one on his!

Is it hard driving and redline shifts that makes it grind or did it grind just from normal easy driving? Mine only has 2300 miles on it and is fine, figure if it is bad it will show itself before the warranty is up.

It grinded going from 2nd to 3rd at anything over 2500rpm (no where near redline) or downshifting from 4th to 3rd anywhere over 2500rpm (again no where near redline).

Got my car back today, new trannie is a bit lighter feeling.

Mine grinds in the Morning. Usually after it warms up it has a knoch and it grinds once in a while. I usually grind going from 1st to 2nd but never grind when down shifting from 3rd to 2nd. It ususally grinds around 2k-3k rpm but over 3k rpm its not that bad. I just can't understand why it only grinds going from 1st to 2nd and not other times.

I also have the latest tranny which ends with 008.

Mine has over 18k miles and has been grinding once in a while going into second and third, but not every time and sometimes even after driving for a while. sometimes going into first at a stop it will grind hard. reading all this i'm about to call and make an appointment to get it checked out, cause this is my first time driving a manual and I was never really sure what to expect.

Mine does the same in cold weather, its kind of wierd to me. Need to check it out. Has anyone with upgraded clutch and flywheel have been having the same problem as us. If not then maybe that may resolve the issue??

SSK,

We have obviously discussed these issues a number of times before, but you brought up some more interesting points I wanted to comment on.

My symptoms are very similar to yours. If I shift at higher RPM's, it's usually not a problem. However, when the car is cold or I am not trying to accelerate quickly and shift at 3K or less, the grinds, clashes and general notchy'ness are more prevelant. Since I had 008 installed, when it's cold I have to really pull quite hard to get it into 2nd. This is a pain and causes delays i the upshift, but it's better than a grind. The one gear that is almost always notchy is 4th since I had 008 installed, up and down.

If you have any further questions or comments, let me know.

Stu E.
