Hey guys, I've been lurking the forums ever since I got my 04 Silverstone back last July. Things have been good except a blow sensor until last Friday..... I was filling up, and then a guy tells me theres gas leaking from my car. I took it the dealership and they said i have a cracked fuel hose on the top of the tank, and the charge to fix it would be 1100$. My question is I know about the recall on the 03-03 z's about the hose, and would i be able to get his work done for free, even though its out of warranty?, its a pretty dangerous issue, and 1100$ is crazy. Nissan has determined that some 2003 - 2004 model year Nissan 350Z vehicles may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. There is the possibility that the fuel filler hose may crack and result in fuel leakage from the hose while refueling. If an ignition source is present, a fire could occur. In addition, fuel vapor hoses may crack and cause the malfunction indicator lamp to come on. To prevent this condition from occurring, Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign to replace the fuel filler and vapor hoses with new ones.


Is there a time limit on recalls? New recalls cannot be issued for vehicles more than eight years old. There is no deadline that applies to when drivers can bring their vehicles in for the recall repair, though since recalls usually pertain to safety, the sooner the better. Usually manufacturers are allowed a 60-day grace period from the time of issue of a recall until the time that recall repairs begin.

you sir are the best, so if I bring a hardcopy to my nissan dealership tomorrow, and the vin is applicable, everything should be good?

 

Id think thats all you need is a copy of the tsb and you should be set. They would be able to figure out if yours was ever replaced or not (obviously not!).

 

A new recall notice is automatically sent anytime a preowned vehicle is registered to a new owner. It's the obligation of the manufacturer to do so if that vehicle has not yet had the recall work done. If you've had your vehicle for almost a year they can actually deny a full coverage of that repair. Meaning they will cover the actual repair to remedy the recall, but they won't pay for any further damage that occured as a result of you or the past owners not getting the recall taken care of.

 

well guys when they traced my vin it unfortunatly was not one on the recall list, goodbye 1 grand....

 

Make sure its not coming out of the tank from the oring seal which is like a $10 part. Easy to swap out.

I would take my car elsewhere....paying 1k to fix a simple hose issue is ridiculous.

 

or pick up an FSM and see if you cant make the repairs yourself.

 

yeah i know the price is ridiculous, but i went to a local garage, and he quoted me about 900, its so expensive because you have to remove the whole rear suspension, and exhaust just to get to the tank. Im gonna try the o-ring fix when i bring it in on friday. The only good part about this is when there putting my car back together, they can put my new exhaust on too haha
