Question Hesitation/Bog/Sputter @ 3k RPM

I did a mountain run with a few of my friends the other day and noticed some bog/sputter/hesitation at around 2k-3k RPM.

Happens in almost every gear, when you heavy accelerate at low RPM. Once you pass 3k RPM there is no sputter/bog/sputter. It feels good till around 2.5k RPM and then it hiccups/sputters/bogs/hesitates for a split-second and once it passes 3k RPM it picks up again.

Yes, I do have RTP's installed as well as a full exhaust and I've done my research. It seems like there are others with similar issues who have aftermarket cats/pipes. Some say a tune fixes it and others have gotten the tune and still have the issue!?

I have Stillen V3 CAI's in my basement and I'm thinking about installing them and maybe it won't hesitate/sputter/bog anymore. Honestly, it's not bad if you are daily driving but on the mountain it was more obvious. Car felt great by the way!

Anyone have a concrete reason why this happens? I'm assuming it's going from lean to rich real quick and the ECU hiccups? Will the intake even it out? I'm not planning on getting a tune till next year...

Thanks!

BTW.. I have a HR 07' Infiniti G35s 6mt..

Hmmmm....is this bogging/sputtering whatever actually happening with the car or are you just watching the tach?
I know at low RPM's when I mash my throttle in any gear the tach likes to bounce up and down a little before she takes off......not to mention Z is lacking with low end power anyways :/

The Z does not lack in low-end power.

I just got the same type of problem. With low revs around 2-3k it doesn't pull evenly if you apply medium amount of gas. It gets a bit jerky. I don't have test pipes so that's not the problem. I have had the same engine mods (plenum spacer and catback) for couple of years and no problems until now.

I think the problem was more being in the wrong gear on a mountain below 3k, plus at part throttle the ecm would still be adjusting fuel ratio for proper catalyst function.

Bump anyone resolve this? I put my stock cats back on and ran it hard. No jerk no sputter.
decided to try z1 100 cpsi hfc instead of straight test pipes and while the problem isnt as bad it still bogs and jerks at low rpm full throttle like 2500-3500 rpm.

I am now tuned with long tube headers and it's still putters. Data log shows nothing when it happens. I'm absolutely stumped.

Hey Chris, you pull codes? Didn't see that mentioned throughout this thread.....

I had a sputter a few weeks back. It was the ol' P0305.

Hey man. No codes. I have obdfusion and torque pro. I'm starting to think it's the oil gallery gaskets and the car has low oil pressure at that rpm and I give her some gas it takes a second. At this point its just a guess. I've been meaning to install a guage but haven't yet. Guess its time.

Good luck finding it!

Sidenote: Funny how so many people are brainwashed into thinking the HR is THE superior motor. (And it is and it had better be being newer!) But at the expense of the poor ol' DE which gets such a bad rap and for what? At least the DE doesn't have oil gallery gasket issues (for the most part).

Let us know what you find.

Any new info on this issue? i have a 03 350z with isr y pipe and a nismo cat back exaust.

my codes read that I have a random misfire, I already replaced my spark-plugs and the entire coil packs.

i am also getting codes for my o2 sensors which i still need to update. could the o2 sensors seriously cause my car to bog when under 3k rpms?

my car hesitates and bogs terribly until I manage to reach 3k then it unlocks its full power and I blast forward like how it used to run before i had this issue

Haha, just found this , couldnt agree more, the aftermarket is just there for the de where the hr isnt , who cares if it is a bit slower stock?, its a sports car no one keeps it stock anyways! and the aftermarket has solutions for all of the des stock drawbacks , to me the best thing the hr did is sound better but thats becuase nissan spent more than $2 on the headers , so its not even the engine itself . if the hr is so much better get a damn 370z, its like the hr but squared
