Just google 350z flywheel chatter. Did you install a light weight flywheel? if the answer is yes then its normal and to be expected

Flywheel chatter is a vibration, when the engine needs to work harder to get the car moving (2nd, 3rd, maybe 4th gear in low rpms). First, that does not sound like a vibration. I have some chatter at idle but giving it gas in neutral should not make it worse. It disappears when I touch the gas in neutral.

I do not think that is regular flywheel chatter, not sure what it is though. Somebody else chime in?

that is not flywheel chatter at all. period.
sorry to scare you, and it could certainly be something else mind you.. it is a video over youtube..

but thats either something lose and rattling against the floorboard like the exhuast or cats.. or its a lower engine knock and the beginning of a bearing dying and ruining your engine. Bring car into a shop immediately, this is not a drive around and ask my350z.com ppl over a video..

and again, it could be nothing, but if it IS a bearing, youll thank me 100 times for catching it before it ruins your crank and sends metal thru your block killing your engine 100%.

I had a 69 Cyclone Cobra Jet making a sound like that. It turned out to be the throw out bearing. It will be interesting to know what it is. Let us know when you find out?

Doesn't sound like flywheel chatter to me. TBH I'm almost thinking rod knock. What happens with the clutch in?

it doesnt do it with rpms. i drove it around and then parked it and left it idling in neutral and it did it off and on something must be hitting. if it was rod knock or bearing it would do it consistantly wouldnt it?

My question is, does it still do it with the clutch depressed? If the noise stops, it could be normal. If the noise is still there, it's something wrong on the engine/flywheel side. Keep in mind the flywheel itself should never make noise, it's the transmission gears that emits the actual 'normal' noise so many refer to. That's why pushing in the clutch should stop it if it's the 'normal' kind.

My buddy's G has the same kind of sound except much worse (like rod knock but so bad it couldn't still be running LOL), turns out bearings on the input shaft of the transmission itself is F'd.

it still does it with clutch in and out. the thing is that when i got home from driving it didnt do it like it did in the video. it just sounded as something was loose and rattling against something else. im going to jack the car up and look to see if the exhaust is hitting. i took it to a very reputable transmission shop a couple weeks ago and he said that everything felt and looked as should when he drove it and put it on the lift.

Sorta sounds like a worn out stock dual mass flywheel.

jacked up the car and nothing is loose or touching something else. when i get above 1700 rpm everything sounds normal again! the noise is coming from under the middle of the car cant hear it very well in the engine bay!
