Default my z burns a lot of oil. can adding thicker oil help?

I've had my z for a few weeks now and I've just come to find that its burning a hell of a lot of oil. So the question is should I try to fix it? Or should i just sell it and look for something else? A local shop told me to use 10w40 a thicker oil which may help burn less oil.. but I wonder if it would make any difference? I was thinking sell it n get a daily 240 till I can save up for a track edition z. But a shop quoted me at 1k to change the valve seals which may be the problem. If I replace the seals and the valves and or the guides are the real problem wouldn't it juss burn oil again? I mean I guess it could also be the piston rings? Just looking for some opinions on the matter.

It would sure help if you posted what year Z model you have, miles and any mods. If you bought it used, did it have any service records? Specifically, how many oil changes and when, as well as what brand/grade of oil was being used?

You really need to do a leakdown test to determine what kind of condition your VQ is in. The problem with running a heavier grade oil is mileage will drop and you're only masking the bigger issues.

Eneos 0W-50 burns much more than any other oil I have tried. Try Rotella 5W-40 or Mobil1 turbo diesel 5W-40. The oil does make a difference.

Motor oil will not fix a motor.
Transmission oil will not fix a transmission,
Differential oil will not fix a differential.

This is a problem that you may want to live with. Figure 1 quart or $4/1,000 miles. 20,000 miles will cost you $80. No big deal.

Unfortunately the motor will get worse not better. Good luck.

thanks for all the feedback guys. il try the oil route first. yah i do realize heavy oil will just mask the problem. i was planning to build the motor anyways i guess this will juss push that date sooner. i juss need it to get me to work everyday till then. the z is an 03 111***K miles has intake and springs. i beleive the oil used was the 5w30? im not sure, which ever one the dealership uses. service records show it was serviced regularly. im sure the previous owner abused it but i got it for such a good deal i couldn't pass.

Have you check your spark plugs? I'd recommend checking the spark plugs to see if there a lot of oil leaking in the wells. Might be time to change the valve covers.
