Default New refurbished engine, need help

I just put in a refurbished engine in my 03 z, it has a vacuum leak, so im going to smoke it out tomorrow, but for some reason the oil pressure is low, like 5 psi at idle, is there something internally wrong or could it be the vacuum leak causing low pressure, it also smells like its burning oil.

whats your definition of smoking it out? are you seafoaming the booster?

sounds like you got a lot going on, could you explain "refurbished" and is there any warranty on that work, or possibly the install where you can get some hands on help?

before smoking it out?

Never heard of a refurnished engine.....

rebuilt = yes

refurbished = Television

Low oil pressure is either "low oil" or worn bearings.

I'd be concerned about the low oil pressure reading. If accurate, that "burning oil" odor could be the main or rod bearings burning up with only 5# of oil press. Vacuum leaks aren't going to explain that low a reading.

VQ35DEs are stout engines, but low oil pressure will kill one FAST.

So the bottom end was just rebuilt? Wrong oil would not make the PSI that jacked up. Probably something internal especially if it was that low on first startup.

Did you buy it from someone that just said it was a rebuilt bottom end or did you pay to have it rebuilt? Big difference.

^ uh oh.....not the best place, read some consumer reports. Not looking that great. EBAY or directly? I guess it doesn't matter.

Are you reading the car gage? If so, the reading isn't accurate since the interval of first two lines spans 30psi with NO increments shown between!
I know my 08 reads very low at idle..I would estimate 10-14psi? and that's NORMAL. What are you showing at COLD start up? Should be close to 90 PSI.

sometime the oil you use will affect oil pressure readings.
