Ok, today I changed the oil on my 03 with 28k on it. I have been using Kendal full synthetic with a wix oil filter. But today I switched to Mobil one. Upon start up it was at 60 psi, no alarm there. But when driving it goes up to 120 psi. NOT NORMAL!.
Anyone else have this issue?
Sorry for bad punctuation as I am on my phone.

I am using 5w30. And it does it when it is completely warmed up. The highest it used to get up to was 60 while driving and go down to less than 20 at idle warmed up.
After my stroker was done I had crazy high pressure. I installed an aftermarket gauge and found teh oem gauge was 20lbs high.
I'd have mechanic put a gauge on your car if I were you to see if that is the issue.

Actually I did check with a mechanical guage, and it came back with the same results.60 at idle and 120 at driving once warmed up.
Since you used mechanical gauge...this is for real and not the pressure sensor or gauge. Wonder if the filter is messed up..since it's certainly not the oil and it was FINE before the change. Don't really see how the filter would effect pressure that much, but it's worth a try. I would replace the filter again. You don't want to run excessive pressures.
I've run mobil 1 and never seen that type of sudden change, and my car has seen a variety of oils. Even with a much thicker oil the pressure still dropped down once it warms up.
Maybe you got a weird batch of oil? Change it again and see what happens would be my first thought.
As mentioned above, suggest a filter change only first to rule it out.

I've been using mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 and a mobil 1 filter on my car ever since I purchased the vehicle. Oil pressure is high on cold start, low on warm idle, higher on acceleration, lower again on idle. Never had any problems.
Like the aforementioned, I would just change out the oil and the filter, not much of a sunk cost to do an oil change.

its ur oil pressure sensor also known as oil sending unit..get a new one and replace it..easy fix...

It was checked with a mechanical gauge and it read the same as the guage in the car. So it is not the oil pressure sender. I changed the filter to a Mobil 1 filter now and it reads the same. I will switch back to the oil I used before.
oook...so how does that say its not the oil sending unit?..im 99% sure it is your sending unit..

The sending (*sensor*) unit is attatched near the filter and can be defective. Yours isn't...as you pointed out, since the mechanical hook up matched the sensor ..which inputs the gauge. Are you going to change the filter? Might want to do that, since it's a simple task. Theoretically...It's hard to see how that would cause the problem..but may as well give it a shot.

It's amazing that people don't *get* what your saying here

I'm glad you figured that one out. Out of curiosity though, oil pressure was at 120PSI when cruising? Say, about 2500-3000RPMS?
It could've been mislabled oil but I can't imagine it would cause your pressure to jump up that high. I run Mobil 5W30 but at cruising speeds it's no where above 60PSI.
