Default only 1 brake light coming on

Ok as title states, only one of my 2 normal brake lights is coming on when i press the brakes. the 3rd brake light is also working normally. I figured it was the bulb, so i switched both of the out might as well sold as pair, didnt fix it.

My dad was around and thinks like i do that the original owners sound system which is just a single subwoofer and a crapy job done splicing is the cause, as he said that he messed with it and the wires touched, blew the fuse, so replaced that so that went ahead and ruled that out for me..

...so now my question is, if i remove the sound system which id rather have more truck anyways, and the problem doesnt go away what is my next move?

**edited in** Also the little sound system has been in the car for years and this is the first problem with the way it was wired in so....maybe it isnt it?**

I don't see how the sound system wiring could ever cross a taillight. I am new to the world of Z's but I would say there's a less than 5% chance of a sound system causing it, especially if it's been in there for years, unless the guy was the worst wiring DIY'er ever

Probably sounds stupid but may as well cover our bases here, do you have a multimeter to test the voltage coming out at the taillight bulbs just to be sure there's nothing coming out? Or even a small amount

Apparently the tailights are wired into the same ground as one another so possibly the connecting wire for that taillight into the ground had something happen to it? I'm spitballing for now but if the DMM shows positive voltage you could try dropping a temporary down from the back of the ballast to the fram just to see if that solves the issue and if so then you can trace the ground.

This is all based off a quick couple minute glance at a 2003 taillight wiring diagram though, so do what you feel comfortable with of course! However, these would be my first moves.

havent checked the voltage yet
