Sounds like you throw-out bearing. It engages when you press the clutch in. If you find you need to replace it you may also want to replace the clutch plate at the same time. Remember to have your flywheel milled to ensure it's smooth without any grooves in it.

I have a similar problem except mine is the opposite.
When my clutch pedal is out i hear a chattering noise but when i push it in the chattering noise goes away then when i let it back out again i hear the same noise. What could that be?

Could be your tranny/input shaft bearing. OPs problem is TOB related.

since you have an 03 with probably high mileage (i am guessing over 100k?) , it's definitely the throw out bearing - all the factory grease is gone or almost gone by now.

Since this is a labor intensive job I'd also have the clutch disc changed and the flywheel resurfaced or replaced, but basically when the transmission is disconnected make sure everything is greased.

Yeah my 350z actually just hit 133k. Thanks for all the info! I really appreciate it. I do have one more question though, what exactly does getting a flywheel resurfaced mean? I've heard people mention that before but I'm not sure what it means /:

Hey guys I'm having a very similar problem like the one justin60222 described. After 10-15 mins of driving my 350z 07 when I press the cutch, the noise stops, when I release it it goes out, almost like a rattling noise. The more I use the clutch, the louder it goes. What worries me is the fact I just purchased it with 35,000 miles on it and the noise came in within my first 500 miles of use.. Any idea of what it can be? It would be really helpful!

Depends, aftermarket or stock clutch? Because my JWT clutch and flywheel sounds like a bunch of marbles usually. So do you have a whirring chatter, or slippage, or what?
