How to change manual transmission fuid

Is there a how to link somewhere here on how to go about changing the tranny fluid and rear diff fluid. I am changing to redline and want to make sure i do it right the first time.
Nothing too special about it. You need to get the car off the ground and level- I used a combination of ramps and jack stands.
Drain and fill plugs are very visible on the rear diff-
The MT has the drain on the bottom and the fill on the passenger side of the transmission.
You will need some type of small pump to get the fluid up into both fill openings.
Do you need more detail??
I used Amsoil, but those using Redline have typically mixed 2 flavors together.

Thanks Z'd. About 5 minutes after I started this thread I found your info on another thread. I didn't think it would be so simple. The plugs on the rear diff. were very visible. I have not looked at the tranny yet, but I imagine it won't be too bad once I get it up in the air. I purchased a 10 mm hex socket so I can remove the plugs. I'm still debating between Amsoil/Redline/Royal Purple. I am having a new tranny put in and I feel that this might help.
It think it may be too late but just make sure that you use ORIGINAL NISSAN MT FLUID 75-85w or something with very similar/thin fluid like Redline 70-80w.
I would not use 75-90W, even 80-90 or anything above.
Nissan 350Z require very thin MT Fluid.

Last week I went to Torrance Nissan to the change MT fluid per Nissan Tech because of my tranny issue. I told the service mgr that I had a tranny that grinds and it was very knochy in the morning. He said that they did not have Orignal MT tranny fluid and they can't get them. He said that he was going to make some calls to see what fluid to use becuase of my tranny issue. When I got the car back later that evening, my gear was very rough & next moring, I could not shift the gear. Later I found out that the use a thick MT fluid so I called them the next day asked them to put different one. After getting it done again, it had gotten better but it was still not right. Next moring, I stiil had a same issue. The gear was really hard to shift and it was very sticky so I decided to call some dealers to see if any of them had Orignal MT Fluid from Nissan. It just happens, Buena Park Nissan had lots of them in stock and that they had just gotten some in. Well the next day, I bought 5 quarts of Original Nissan MT fluid (75-85w $11.99 per quart) and took it back to Torrance Nissan and had them replace it for the 3rd time. After putting the original fluid, it has gotten lot better than the first 2 types of fluid they put in. I still have a grind & knochy issue but its has not gotten worse than before.
The lesson I learn, ONLY USE ORIGINAL NISSAN MT FLUID. The only other thing I would use is REDLINE 70-80W.
Thicker the oil, it make the tranny feel very rough, knochy & sticky.
I would not use 75-90W, even 80-90 or anything above.

I'm not sure what brand or weight of fluid the dealership used in your tranny, but they would have to find a GL-4 rated fluid to meet specs.
Spec calls for SAE 75W-85 (70W-80 will not meet spec.)
I will tell you that the Amsoil Series 2000 is a drastic improvement over OEM fluid. Being synthetic, it is not subject to additional thickening based on ambient temperature.

try 5w30 synthetic engine oil...i have it in my 84 gearbox and the shifts are like butter even with 260,000km...rear end too...
On second thought don't do it till your warrenty is up or it will be shot...wait till after...
What do you think?
I changed the oil last year and it looked as clean as the day I put it in 15000miles before...

probably not going to be a problem in newer cars like the Z. But be sure to loosen the fill plug first, before you dump all the tranny fluid out. the last thing you want is to find out that your fill plug has seized, and now you have no transmission fluid.(wouldn't want to drive your Z w/o tranny fluid to the mechanic to get it fixed)

Thanks for the additional info. I live in a very cold climate and I have noticed that as the weather gets colder, the tranny is harder to shift. I will let you know the results if and when I flush it out.
