Dealer gave me automatic tranny fluid for my manual?
I just got my car I am building for the track. So I am new with the Z. But I went to my local Nissan dealer and bought a ton of parts and told the parts guy I wanted manual transmission fluid, he said I will be right back, comes back with a few bottles of automatic transmission fluid. I said this is not right, he said I just asked my "top" tech, he said this is what we use in them, don't bother worrying about what it says????????? I said you sure the MANUAL is using Auto tranny fliod, he said yes, that's what we use. Instead of making myself look like an *** I took it, because I have heard in the past very few manuals transmissions actually called for ATF, and I know this car calls for GL-4 75W-85. So unless my basic research is wrong the bottles of these are going back tomorrow and I will insist on MTF regardless of what his "top" tech says.
not sure how that can be taken as a joke. I'm completely serious. My 6 speed manual takes ATF. Keep in mind, I'm not running a nissan tranny anymore, but, just lettin ya know, my manual does take ATF.
75w-90 api "GL-4" fluid. take careful note to "GL-4". you can use 75w-85 also, but again, GL-4 only.
*edit*
GL-5 causes issues with syncros in the z/g to clarify why you must use GL-4.

Sorry, didn't see your setup, seems pretty sick. But in this case does not apply to my OEM tranny.
Yeah, I read GL-4 and 75-90. But why the heck did this guy insist I his ATF is correct? I wanted to see if by some crazy chance he was right, which i highly doubt.

Went back to the dealer with the ATF and said I cannot use this, I need MTF. Now another parts guy heard and said do you have an auto or manual, I said manual, he said then why the hell did he give you ATF? the guy said oh, i spoke to *insert stupid techs name here* and he said it uses ATF. Make a long story short they don't know **** but now I left with MTF in 75W-90.

Same thing happened to me. I asked the parts guy multiple times if he was sure ATF is what I should be using and he reassured me it was; he tried to tell me both transmissions use it like it was a new formula or something. I hesitantly bought it and did my research then took it back. Told him I didn't feel comfortable with ATF and I wanted what my owner's manual told me I needed. After I gave him the part number for the OEM fluid I needed he admitted to his mistake and apologized.
